Judges' biggest grooming critiques

Not seen a thread on this but are they any common grooming techniques that judges do not care for?

Not a judge here but my critique is when steers backs are combed and clipped with a square, blocky look.  Like the deck of an aircraft carrier.  That's not a natural shape.

I've heard judges comment on excessive pulling down of belly hair. Especially when it gets to a real unnatural looking state, usually makes the comment something like "worry about natural depth once you look past the hair pulled down".

I guess I haven't really heard much critique of grooming by judges.

I have heard comments like "I question how much steer we have under all that hair".

When I hear a judge say: "The next steer in line is very well presented today.......".
I think he's a "counterfeit".

Heard a judge at the Ohio State Fair say a steer was "over-presented".  He was a true hairball and was fitted to the nines.

I have heard judges knock one pretty bad for excessive twine on the legs. Not if its done correctly but when it starts to make them look unnatural. This is actually one of my pet peeves as well. When its done correctly it looks great but when its not it can really mess one up in my opinion.

I have never heard a judge actually call someone out for too much twine, but I completely agree with you.  Twine used to ENHANCE is one thing, but twine used to CONSTRUCT just looks terrible.

I have.... There was actually one judge quite a few years back that went up to the calf that had the twine basically falling off push it the rest of the way off with his boot......pretty hilarious. I would have been super mad if it was mine but then again I wouldnt have sent it in the ring like that either.
