How do you guys keep your hair on your spring calves throughout the summer and into fall? Do you keep them in a cooler away from their moms during the day? Will creep feed help? Open to any suggestions.

I'm kinda a rookie at doing this  also and from breeding and trying to do it  you main goal is to creep or make sure you are feeding them early ,as far as the hair
it sure don't hurt to keep them in and work  with them ,and the genetics is the key for the hair ... Try to keep them in shade  cause the good haired ones during hot wheather might not grow as good ....

I second what freddy said. It's mostly genetics, but getting them creep is very important. Rinsing them a couple times or getting them in is nice but not absolutely necessary, depending on where you live.

they are gonna shuck at some point in the late summer. january and february calves tend to shuck in july normally for us and the march and aprils tend to shuck more in august.

you are better off letting them shuck it out and then starting over in september and october because that's when the good stuff comes.

What breed do you have? the best bet with the Angus calves is to slick then out in mid to late June and grow new stuff.  Gives you the freshest blackest hair!
