My Turn

When you put in his name into the "search" tab it comes up "error" so I am just going to ask........What have the Birthweights been like? If you know of any larger calves 100+lbs, what did the dam look like/was the breeding? We are interested in using him this year but would just like to be careful. This is one of the cows I would like to breed to him, she is 5 and an angus simmy x out of a first calf heifer. Thanks for the input.

We had a 100+ calf out of him. The cow was a heatseeker and is really thick so that's part of why the calf was so thick. She was the only my turn calf we had.

Bred 6 cows to My Turn got 6 calves.  Range from 16 days early little lamb to 7 days late 125lbr.  Most the others where in that 100lb range unassisted on time.  They are my best cavles.  The cows are sim/angus and sim/maine.  Aftershocks and C339U.  Will breed again this year...very pleased!

Had 2 My Turn calves last week.  They were both out of angus cross cows, on time, both are heifers ofcourse, both weighed 88lbs unassisted.  Very nice calves!

Had 2 last Friday.  Both in that 80-90 lbs range.  1 out of a HW cow and 1 from a 1/2 char cow.  HW needed a little help but otherwise both came fine.  1 black and the other blk baldy.  Look very promising.  Also compared to my WA's these were both up and sucking in about 15 min full of energy.

I used him on only one cow last year, wish I had used him on every one!

Cow is a Chi-Maine-Sim -- a hairy best of a cow too -- and she had me the best hfr calf I have had in a LONG LONG time. A real rippin good one.

A tick over 80 lbs, solid black from a chromed cow, and HAIRY. I tend to get excited about calves early, but not like this one. She is gonna be GOOD

I will get every one a pic or two when the weather clears a bit, and she looks like she should! Tame as a lamb too -- that is a real plus here.

Way to go Brad -- I wrote ya a week ago thanking you for a good genetic piece, he will have his place in many breeding to come!

My Turn used in this area 3-4 years  and the general opinion is they don't finish out big enough ,look realy good as calves but never keep growing ....We sold
one last year and see how he turns out ..have more on the ground and coming, know more this fall....

By far my best calves so far this spring.  Very happy with him on variety of cows.  When using bull for first time I always give me a wide seltion of cows so that way I know what he works on.  nothing over 90 lbs at my house.  Best one is Baldy out of Meyer son x Heatseeker cow.  All ready got more semen for this spring breeding.

I have nice saleable calves out of My Turn and Angus calves.  Very complete, just need more power.  I 've used him on WMW daughters and granddaughters, and they're much more powerful.  I really like the bull. Will use him again this year.

Do you think that the cow photographed would work with him, based on the two photos?  She had calved a week prior in the second photo.

Getting some smokie calves out of Charolais cows and look like have lots more power than out of Angus cows ,smokes look like they should work and not to big,maybe in the 90's ,but having them real easy .....

I have had great my turns the past 2 years. He has never downsized anything I have bred him to and usually added frame. Sad to say this year I lost a My Turn that was the biggest calf I have ever seen out of anything to one of my best cows. This was the best calf I have ever seen as well. He was all of 140 Lbs and I would say pushing the 150Lb mark.  Checked the cow had the head partially out and no feet. Had to get the feet out and she had him with a little help pulling by hand. Calf was alive but didnt make it through the night. That cow always has 90-110 lb calves. She is a sim/angus cow prob 1600 lbs. Last year she had my turn twin heifers that were about 90lbs each. As for the rest most I have had are all 3yr old plus simm/angus cows and most bw have been 85-110 range for me. The only one I have ever pulled at all is the one this year. All others have calved unassisted.

Really pretty feminie cow. Nice profile looks like she produces showy calves. May I ask why you are not considering Heat Wave or clones? I am assuming that if you are considering My Turn you are okay with clubbie. I used him (HW) on a very similar cow and had great succes. She just looks like the type of cow that could balance out HW. I know there are a ton of other choices with all the new bulls. I liked the My Turn calves I saw as well. I didn't see any puds. The Grand Champion from American Royal Goretska showed I thought was a My Turn, pg 239 of March Show Circuit.

I am terrified of Hw. We used him a few years ago on a mature angus cow and she fell into a ditch and couldn't have the calf. It was a pretty large calf. We had to shoot the cow, she couldn't get back up. My husband said never again. So I was looking into something a little risky but not quite as risky. That cow just had twins so she has just climbed to the top of the "my favorite cows" list and I am too worried to breed her to hw. I was thinking of using my turn or monopoly on her..... I know monopoly is out of hw, another reason to search elsewhere.

Freddy.....this REALLY surprises me.  I  have told people to watch the growth on the calves, and NOT to use him on too big of a cow.  I'm not doubting or questioning you one bit, but was the ones that didn't get big enough bred similar, or random dams?

Birth weight on the My Turns is generally NO problem at all and ALL mine have been unassisted.  However, if there is some birth weight history on the dam side, I have heard of a bigger one, but definitely NOT big numbers as a norm.

The one thing that My Turn does that most don't is STAMP that LOOK in every calf.  It still amazes me at his consistency in doing that.  He's not perfect by no means, but he does have his place.

The cow pictured above is precisely the kind I like to use him on.  Smaller, soft made cows with plenty of flex and body.
