The James family is getting crucified for the whole situation when all they did was write a letter - probably asking for this not to happen again and an apology.  The administration used this as a last straw to get rid of him.  I don't follow Tech that closely, but to me them getting rid of Knight and now getting rid of Leach is a case of actually being consistent for a change.

Nobody would care about Leach getting fired if he didn't win lots of games.  So, if you win, its ok to do what you want to do to "discipline" hurt kids.

I DESPISE "helicopter" parents (my wife works in a college admissions office and could tell you some real good stories), but a parent writing a letter to an administration over potential stupid treatment of an injured kid isn't out of line in my opinion.

Anybody really know much about how our military operates now in relation to how they take care of training injuries?  I do.  I can guarantee you they use common sense when treating heat stress, concussions or any other injuries.  It would actually surprise you the lengths they go to now to take care of soldiers during training AND combat.  Even the "lazy" ones.  Frankly, they are pretty soft now.  A lot softer than my old high school football coaches that gave us one drink of water during each two a days practice.

Leach is a horse's *** that got his bluff called.  I've heard enough of his radio interviews down here to recognize him for what he is.  Tech alumn's like him because he could beat the Aggies and every once in a while the Longhorns.  He's not an old school, "tough" football coach.  He's as spoiled as he claim's this kid was.

Why was the question n answer on espn to Leach cut so short. It seemed like Leach started to tell of the rooms or sheds and they cut him off.  He aint budgin none. He's tellin a pretty believable side.  He's coming out slinging guns as much as on the field

Just read the statement by the head football athletic trainer for tech. I would say it is relevant.  What good to lie. Leach is gone.  James is screwed.  Tech is screwed.  The ad is screwed.  Craig James looks like an idiot

I do think different kids react differently to different things. Try and read the 1976 book"Meat on the hoof" by Gary Shaw. I guess the line of acceptable treatment will be found. I always heard that the old Vince Gibson coach for KSU way back made the players run till they literally filled a puke bucket on the ends of gassers.

Just pulled this off ESPN forum:

Did anyone hear the story about Leach making a player do his homework on the 50 yd line in a snow storm. Saying if you want to play in this place with a crowd watching sit there until you are done. Does it snow it Lubbock. Sounds like something out of Bear Bryant playbook. Thats funny

Heard it.  Made him do his homework cause he wouldn't.  But didn't hear the snow storm part.  Unless you have someone on the inside you would totally trust, the exact truth will prolly never be known.

It's pretty clear I dont think much of Leach, but I think he did graduate a relatively high % of his players.  So did Knight.

I'm going to the game tomorrow. I'm an Aggie, but someone asked if I wanted to go and I said sure, wasn't too thrilled about having to wear red and black, but I figured college games are fun. Now I'm kinda excited about it because of all the press the game will get and high emotions of the Tech fans. Ought to be interesting.

A thought occured to me last night (won't tell you the time!)  But why is it some on this very board say "If ya aint cheating, you aint tryin" and "If you want to win, you have to do whatever it takes"  yet  some of those same people are saying Leach is wrong. In many eyes, he might have been doing "whatever it takes" to win. His record shows he knows how to win. NOW your going to start saying it matters how winning is accomplished? A double standard is appearing before my eyes!

By the way, happy new year to all and may everyone have a profitable and happy year!

If that kid and all his supporters think he was mistreated they need to go back and read or watch they stories on "The Junction Boys" that played at Texas A&M.  They might realize how soft and wimpy many of the players are now days, or maybe its the chip they all have on their shoulder from believing they deserve everything instead of earning it.

we as a society are not taught to deal with double standards until the consequences are too great.

then, we are vilified.

that's essentially why the everyone gets a trophy mentality is so suicidal.

negative consequences learned too late in life create situations like we are dealing with in society today.

I heard a good example several years ago that I like to use to emphasize this point; A student forgot his lunch for school one day. He called his mom and wanted her to bring him a lunch but she refused. Said that to the best of her knowledge, no kid had ever died from missing a lunch so he would just have to deal with it and learn from it. This lesson, if learned, about responsibility in a young child will be valuable later in life with a small consequence. I not learned until later in life when person forgets to set alarm clock and misses work could have much greater consequences.
