I’ve just gotten my last ever show steer 😢 Well at least my last one with my school, and he needs a name.
We follow the stud year letters for names, so calves born in 2026 will have names beginning with X.

He was born late January so he’s just about 5 months old, still on his mum but we’ve started halter breaking him. He’ll lead well out of the crush to the fence we tie them on, but he’s a bit stubborn if I try and lead him away from the fence. I’ve been doing a small lap of the yard before I tie him up each morning just to try and get him used to the idea of walking where I take.

He still needs a name so i need some suggestions!

Thank you!! Originally I was going to call him Xavi but my friend is calling her steer Xavier so that would get pretty confusing. Although last year we had a kid and a steer with the same name lol 😂.

Got a photo of him standing up on Friday morning

He is good-looking. Xander or Xion, either of those is the name I vote for.

I’ve decided to call him Xeno, thank you for all the suggestions.

I can’t wait for him to get a bit older so we can wean him and I can start working with him properly and start washing him.
His first show will either be mid September or late October depending on my exams and what the rest of the team ends up doing. Its looking towards September though as there’s a feed on class and he’s looking like one of our most promising steers.

Great on the name. Please keep us up to date, and post photos as he grows.

Will do!
I’ll get to see him again in about a week and a half because i’m on school break but after that i’ll get to see him every day

Got to see him again today!
He got weaned today and my friend was working with him while i was in class and he said he was doing well and he got him to stand square without a cane.
I accidentally spooked him when i was trying to annoy my friend but he calmed down really quickly and then Xeno and I ran away to get him food cause my friend was making fun of him.
Tomorrow my plan is to try and get him to walk a bit and give him a brush and if i get time show him the blower and the clipping frame to get him used to it so i can start rinsing and washing him cause his first show will likely be mid September.

He’s the one in the middle looking straight at me, you can’t really see him too well in that picture but it’s the best i could get this morning
