Opinions on DF Waco x SULL Sara Rose Shorthorn Bull

First post, need some honest opinions from the board please, we have an April 1st, 2013 purebred shorthorn bull calf out of DF Waco 6W x SULL Sarah Rose 8913 (see attached photos).  First bull calf on farm and we're divided as to marketing him as a bull or steer, bloodlines are good quality.

DF Waco 6W is a son of Diamond Helena Dottie 12H x WHR Sonny 8114.  DF Waco 6W
was the 2009 NAILE Reserve Grand Champion Bull and the 2013 Reserve All American
Get of Sire, now deceased his semen is still being used in many leading Shorthorn breeding programs.

SULL Sarah Rose 8913 was a 2009 NAILE Division Champion, she's a daughter of
NPS Desert Rose 004 x CF Trump and a full sister to national champions
HD Ruby 903, SULL Rosemary 8085 and SULL Rose Mary 636.  Her full brothers
include some of the Shorthorn breeds leading sires:  CF Solution X, HD Bloodstone 603
and SULL Cyclone 8242.

His top line has a vee. Needs to be leveler, a little deeper.

Thanks for the post. He's in a growth spurt, we just weaned this week and as he fills out he's leveling out. We really like the shoulder on him, definitely from the Sara Rose side. Appreciate the reply!

For me he needs to be softer in his design. He looks little hard made at this point. he may grow and fill. Would like deeper side and balance him out overall design. I am big on head shape some may think I am a freak, but I like more traditional shorter made head. Broader skull shorter muzzle. Not trying to be overly critical. He is long bodied and growthy for his age. Will be interesting to see how he grows out. Its tough when they go through those grow phases and look some what gangly.

I subscribe to that philosophy as well. Give me a square muzzle with the swirl dead center. I think when you start getting into the more androgynous genetics, youll experience cattle become a bit courser made than at least I'd prefer.

If he was mine, I'd steer him. Market him as beef. Those bloodlines are not in demand as far as bulls go. Everybody has used those or is using Waco or Cloud 9 currently. To market a bull is difficult. To market a shorthorn bull almost takes a act of god if your not in the cool and the gang click. If you need a bull, then keep

Was happy to get out and get a good look at this bull calf while at fair last week.  He was a real nice bull calf in person.  I know many of you can tell just about everything from a few pictures after a baby has just been weaned, but this guy was a stud in the flesh.  He wasn't going to be a show steer by any means, but a show female maker for sure!  Much more use in my opinion as a bull than as a show steer or as a feeder.  No offense Pat, but you are no professional camera man when it comes to cattle. (lol)
