At what age will a stallion usually become fertile?

Its been known for young (4-6 mo old) foals to accidentally breed mares. If your asking when you start breeding - the very youngest should be two. Let me know if you have any other questions

2 is what I thought some will actually be fertile earlier though correct?

There have been many horse folks who wean colts and fillies together and leave them together all winter and ....same thing. Pregnant yearling fillies that foal when theyre 2. Not a good thing! Obviously, not all colts will be capable of impregnating before their yearling year, but some will. I'd keep 'em apart just as soon as they're weaned and if the colts are left on their dams 'til they're 6 or 7 months old, separate colts and dams from fillies and dams. JHMO, but I raised Morgans for many years and saw just about everything!

I know what you mean dori. I have heard of colts breeding dams and the other broodmares on accident. MSA if you dont mind me asking - why are you wondering? Are you weaning?

we will be weaning in a couple of months and just thinking a head we also have a yearling stallionthat is really starting to work the fence be.

they are jan and febs we will wean at about 5 months of age
