We are leaving next Friday morning to go to Waco to watch the Oklahoma State/Baylor game. Our kids are age 11 and 8. I was wondering what we coud do down there on Friday evening. Also, after the game on Saturday, (11:30 kickoff) we plan to spend the night in the DFW area (I'm hoping to get a steak from the Cattleman's in FW), and come home on Sunday. This is our kids' first away-game roadtrip. If it were just my wife and I, I know that we could find a good bar to go to down there somewhere, but we'll just have to do that another time.

I look forward to hearing some ideas.

Thanks, and GO POKES!!!

The state's Texas Ranger Museum (the old lawmen) is in Waco.  Don't know what time it closes but you could look it up on internet.

There is a really good restaurant in a little town called Sanger (just south of Gainesville) called Babe's if you are through there around lunch time.

For my money, the best reasonable-priced steak in Fort Worth is H3 Ranch in the stockyards.  They are even better for breakfast, but they don't open for it till 9 on Sunday morning I think.

You might as well stop in Cabela's on the north side of Fort Worth if you like that kind of thing.

I'm not that big of a zoo fan, but the Fort Worth Zoo is absolutely great.  My 10 and 7 year old boys still love it.  Plus, you can see last year's grand and reserve grand steers there in the "Texas" section.  Kind of interesting to see them outside their pampered environments.

Any good mom and pop messican restaraunts in the metro or Waco? We tend to like those so much better than the chain-type restaraunts.

I second H3 for steaks on the Northside. Atmosphere is great. Not a whole lot to do in Waco besides the Texas Ranger HOF or the Texas Sports HOF. Zoo or Kids museum if it is open. Omni Theater. These are all on the Westside of Ft. Worth. The State Fair is going on in Dallas. Dallas World Aquarium is also cool. Watch the Baylor fans, they are funny to see. Not near as rowdy as you Pokes!

I will agree with Big Tex.....  Lots of things to do in the metroplex.... we have enjoyed taking lots of kids there for various activities...  There is a little Mexican place on main street in Saginaw that has great food... it is crowded but we eat there a great deal when we go to Fort Worth since our daughter-in-law and son want to eat Mexican food every meal....  But my choice is the Stockyards....

Take a right when exit the baylor stadium lot onto Valley Mills Dr., Exit onto Franklin Ave. about 1 block. Turn right onto Franklin and it will be on the left about 5 blocks before you get to 18th street. To get back to I35 take a right onto 18th street and it will take to I35.

No, I would like to think that I'm not old enough to have kids that age, but with all the stuff with Dez Bryant and the NCAA, I read that he is 20 years old, and his mom is 34!!!

If your a die hard stockshower, there is always the Heart O Texas Fair and Rodeo going on right now. You could get rodeo tickets, take them to the carnival, and walk through the barns.  We will be there with heifers....not siure what else is showing.  This is a pretty nice Junior Show...Waco does a nice job.  Good rodeo too!

I ain't a Texan, but.....

Here's another vote for Joe T's in Ft. worth.  Their margaritas are about the best thing there, and that's saying a lot.  They have terrific food.  If you want to visit BP shops, hit the Uncle Buck's restaurant while you're there & get a steak.  They have a really good steak, and they make their own beer too. <beer>

No doubt about that. Sounds liked a doomed marriage from the beginning!!! ;D The only way you can get away with that is having the wedding at the tailgate party!! <beer>

Lots of good eatin' places in Waco.. the best Mexican is probably La Fiesta on Franklin and Valley Mills Drive.  There are plenty of chinese buffets.. if you like that sort of thing.  Lots of the chain restaurants like Cheddars, Red Lobster, TGIF's, etc. etc.  You could head down to the Simbrah sale at Smith Genetics... or you could go to the Cameron Park Zoo.  Small, but very nice.  I'm not much of a "town" person, so I'm not up on what's going on this weekend.

We are staying in Hillsboro (I think that's where Sullivan's is ;D) because all of the Hotel rooms in Waco are full. It's Baylor's homecoming. Where at from Waco is Mt. Carmel? No, I'm not one of those Branch Davidian freaks, but I am an Oklahoman that is still angry with the terrorists that bombed the federal building in OKC, which was as they said "Due to the way the FBI and the ATF dealt with Koresh and his followers". I'm kind of interested in history too, so I thought it might be neat to at least drive by.
