for the people that dont think it will be a hw son. that heatwave is a trend when were you born.90% of all major winners and high sellers are heat wave or wave sons. did not use any hw for the first 10 years in club calf business and never sold one for more then 2500. this year sold hw's for 11250.00, 4500.00,4300.00,3000.00, 2300.00. In the first hw calf crop.Needless to say i'm a hw fan.If you want steers and you want to sell them high hw or a son are the only way to go.

ya but i think that has alittle to be with the HW on their tags.  Names and pedigrees do alot for a profit...  IMO a guy could take his best non HW calves, stick an HW on thier tag and sell them for same ammoutn..  A good calf is a good calf.. to me it doesn't matter who he is out of, if he is a steer...  Breeding stock I do care, market= nope..

Don't get me wrong I love Heat Wave also... That's why I bought 10 canes three years ago of the original, another 100 of Wave on wave. and there not for sale yet.
Heat Wave 5 is having trouble freezing but Lautner will just clone him again, I would! I also think bred to the right bull heat wave females will make champions, but you really have to feed them after they calve, most of my high selling steers were out of Heat Wave Cows.

But hears the problem I have with our industry..... theres allot of great steers out there being CALLED HEAT WAVE just because there easy to sell
Heat Wave is consistant, look around at whats being called a Heat Wave.

I think the club calf industry doesn't have that bull out there right now to replace HW, but what I do think is over the next few year clubby producers will still ride the HW sons until that bull arrives. If you look at trends HW was a product of what was hot at the time. Think about it when Heat Seeker came out what breed was hot? SHORTHORNS. We used shorthorn influence to add hair, which was what everyone was needing. One more generation and we had HW. If you look at what is hot right now it is the Sim-Angus deal. I would look at bulls in the future that have a heavy Sim-Angus back ground on the dam side and that same old extreme club calf persona on the sire side, this may take a few years, but I think it is coming.

I sure hope you are right.  I'm gearing up with a lot of Meyer 734 eggs going in this spring, and a lot of influence in the herd.  Can only hope we'll be able to hit on one of them.  Sure would love to get my name up in lights on one of these big time clubbie bulls.

My hope on the poll is Monopoly, since we just bought a bunch of it last week.  Since he is supposed to be a basic HW x Angus, I don't think he'll be as inconsistent as a bull that is clubby x clubby.  I can only hope.

Bleeding Purple was bred very similar to Monopoly and raised some really good calves in his very short lifespan.  That makes me think Monopoly has a good chance - particularly on larger-framed cows.  Haven't used him myself yet though.

People started finding some really good Charolais bloodlines that work once the smokies took off down here.  I wish people would look that hard at some of the black Simi's or Limousins.  I would love to find a good "steer bull" primarily from those breeds.

I also wish that a really good Full Flush son would surface.  It was almost Friction.

I am using several Limousin Bulls like Direct Hit on Lim-Flex (Angus-Limmy Cross) cows and I have a one lim-flex bred to the Star Power simmy bull, but I don't think I will produce a great club calf sire anytime soon though.  I agree, the way Limousin cattle are made today, they may be the missing link to a new great sire.

Dan Leddy is supposed to have a good one from Express that is too short for main stream Limi popularity, but might fit the bill for steers.  I don't know anything else about him though.

Blaque Rulon is the closest thing for steers right now in the Limousins. He offspring are still winning most of the shows. I have a EXLR New Generation heifer that is pretty good.

 I'm not totally convinced about the Monopoly bull just yet. Where are seeing all of the great Monopoly's Zach? I'm still thinking that he is 90% hype and 10% good bull on the right cows. The ones that I have seen will surprise me if they can compete all the way to the heavy weights, and if he is going to be it, what about his 2 full sibs. All Aboard & Headliner? I think that right now Carnac has the best prooven show ring record with Ne State fair & Fort Worth to just mention 2 quickly. Brent

All of those are Blaque Rulon sons or Grandsons, except for pacesetter, maybe. I just haven't seen a Limi bull that through bone and thickness as much as other breeds. I have two EXLR Rodeo Drive heifers that are ok. he is a Asphalt son.
