It's a New Year and it always brings up the thoughts of what could I do better on steerplanet to make it a more functional, enjoyable, etc.

I can't promise that I can deliver on everything, but I will make an effort to put the more popular suggestions into effect.

Edited to add list so far.

1.  Easier access to older topics.  -  Not sure I will able to address that one, you can always you the search feature or click on your username and "show posts".
2.  No Changes at all - thanks for the compliments, we definitely won't change anything to the core, but just some tweaks.
3.  More forums - I have been on the fence about this, I like the current setup as it keeps plenty of fresh info, but I think in the future we might need to expand as the sheer number of threads grow.
4.  The classifieds would greatly benefit from having a location requirement.  I will see what I can do, it is just a forum like the big show and not an actual classifieds code, but I can think of a couple work arounds.  I would probably refrain from a post limit as a lot of new posters are drawn to the site for the ability to sell an item.
5.  Off-topic Discussion - relates to the the more forum idea from above.  This will probably happen soon as the page for the big show fills up so quick.  It would not be mandatory to post every off topic discussion, but anything to do with religion or politics would be.
6.  Sire report page.  Jeff from cattle.com has something with first hand reports.
7.  Mandatory location in profile, I can send a pm around asking people to update their profile, but probably won't make it mandatory as some people don't want to dilvulge.

I will start.

I think the frontpage needs to be updated more often with more fresh content from people other than me.  If you would be interested in writing, drop me a pm.

I like this site alot. one thing that i think would be real handy is a way to go back and look at all the topics you've made.... i like going back in the fall and looking at the calf pictures from the spring it is sometimes really hard to find them again . so my idea is just a list of all the topics we've made so we can find them again

I dont think I'd change anything, this site is really user friendly and easy to use.Steerplanet makes other forums look like they were composed and built by 3rd graders in computer classes.( Ya I know I'll catch flack for that but oh well). Maybe on the breeders links you could put which sites where updated on which date, but I think thats kinda complicated to do. Site looks great as always, keep up the good work!!

I spend more time on here that I care to admit to my wife so to tell you I like this site is a waste.  Some thoughts that I had on how to improve.....maybe add another page like the classifieds and big show that would break up the big show a little more.  Like jokes/captions, recipes, health, Show Circuit, etc. etc.  It may make naviagating the two currently most used pages a little easier.  But, even if you don't touch it.... I will be back with regularity!

IMO. I think in the Classifieds it should required that you put what State (TX, OK, LA, & ETC.) the animal or object you are selling is in AND there should be a required amount of post before you can put something in the Classifieds  . Their are a lot of (Newbies) people that post stuff on here and they never get back on here or reply to anyone.  Like I said this is JMO.

I really like the way the forum is set up, if I had one suggestion it would be to add an area for off topic discussion and leave The Big Show for discusion of cattle only topics.  The majority of the fourms I belong to are setup this way so people aren't put off by other topics.  I like a good political discusion as much as the next guy and having Ben Nelson for a Senator gives me lots to complain about but I think some people that visit a cattle forum expect to look through cattle related topics only and not a multitude of other discusions.

Make it more cell phone friendly to navigate.  Besides that add a joke of the day page.  Great job.  Love the site.

It would be nice to get  the PM functionality working with cell phone texting somehow so that you can send, receive, and respond to them without coming to the site.  I'm not sure how you go about it, but it might be as simple as figuring out a way to add your twitter/facebook account to your profile or something.

Maybe a Sire Report page where people can post pics of calves out of certain bulls so people dont have to search the web forever looking for calves out of a particular bull.

Jason, I personally REALLY like your web site here -- it is for the most part alot more professional than most any other active site today. There are alot of professional people (Not saying I am, but I do try).

If there was one thing that bugs me no end is this -- when you see a post from some one -- say for instance a calf for sale or something similar -- it would be GREAT to be able to go to thier profile page and look at the map that you so graciously put in place. MOST people unfortunately do NOT complete thier profile page and indicate where they are in this country.

That could possibly be intentioal on thier part to hide thier true ID, and I think that is one reason we need to make it MANDATORY to complete the profile page, including an accurate maping location.

If I see a calf or piece of equipment for sale in the classifieds, with no indication of where they are in the post, it would be nice to go see thier map first to decide whether they are close enough to home to bother contacting!

Just one of my thoughts --

Good job Jason

Jason, I know you're just searching ways to improve the site, but I believe there is an old addage which is very appropriate here....... "If it aint broke, don't fix it"!

i think futurebreeder 2013 had a good idea....... I disagree CJC in the fact that we dont need to have required posts to , to post in classified section..... the reason i came to steerplanet was to sell my cattle it did that and i life the site but came back for the fun conversation

I think a "Sire Report Forum" would be pretty handy in stead of the million threads on the newest bull or whatever comes along, know what i mean? Say Jason adds the threads and we can post in them but can't add new threads our selves.

The Classifieds - required state listing.

other than that I can't really see changing anything.

I do suggest though that the good threads on Flushing Cows be added to the Hall of Fame.
