JTM said:I think whoever got #79 probably got the buy of the sale. When you compare $2900 to $40,000 or $20,000. If I was looking to get a bull at that sale, I probably would have ended up with 79 because of the quality for the price. I personally like #80 for a heifer bull but I won't be in the market until next year this time for a heifer bull.

It is puzzling for me to beleive that though because I heard that Lot 79's dam is owned by one cool s.o.b.! <beer> It's funny how the term cool can be used to describe such different types of cattle by different people. For me, "cool" is tons of rib, depth, fleshing ability, soundness and sogginess wrapped up in one package, for the next guy it's choke necked, goose fronted, straight-lined and pretty.

Lot 79 at 2900 doesn't sound so hot compared to 20,000 and 40,000 but is still a good sale and I don't know who ended up with 79 but I bet they are happy to have him. Lots 79 and 80 together averaged 7075, I would take that as an average on my bulls any day.
Yeah, I agree. Different types of bulls doing different things for the buyers. I do agree that 79 bringing $2900 is a good price. It would be for me too. I think if you can present 20 similar bloodline bulls as well as he was presented then the average would possibly be in the $4-5000 area fairly easily, that's just a guess. At least to me, he could have been worth more with his calving ease potential with all other things considered too.aandtcattle said:I thought 79 and 80 were the cream of the offering for usefulness, all things aside, these two bulls I found a lot about to appreciate and would love to see more cattle like this offered in the breed. No doubt Lot 79 was a good bull but he was a half blood out of of a really good shorthorn cow. That should have good results about 100% of the time. Are there any other breed registries that actually take animals from other breeds herd books and assign them 75% blood status?aandtcattle said:79 was my pick of the bull offering too aj. The lot 80 bull was a purebred so he probably appealed to a wider group of buyers. It will be interesting to see how Lot 80's brothers sell in the Sneed sale today.
