Anyone know anything on the shorthorn bull Talladega? Seen him or any calves?

The most impressive shorthorn bull that I have ever seen!

I saw him in Denver this year. He was impressive standing there. He is really big framed. Once he got on the move he was very soft footed.

I saw him at Denver as well.  He is a very impressive bull.  Super look from the side and is really stout from behind.  I did not see him move but he looked like he would move well enough. My only concern would be he is a little bigger than I like to use and he does not look like he would be the easiest calving bull.  I would suspect he will produce some calves that will be very competitive in the show ring.

I saw him in Denver this year and last year, I liked him both years. I liked him so much last year in Denver that I bred one of my Shorthorn cows to him that is due in April. I really like him, the guy that had him on display said that we should start seeing calves out of him come this spring as he was put on display last year in Denver for the 1st time to promote him. I have heard that he is hard calving from other people, the guy that had him on display told me that their calves that they have had so far out of him are averaging 90lbs, so no he is not an easy calver by any standards, is he a cow killer, we shall see. My cow stuck to him on first straw, so we shall see in a couple months.

I saw him in Denver this year.  Massive bull.  I did not see him walk, only on display.  I was impressed.

I went to Duis Farms in IL to see Talladega when he was a calf. I really liked him then but was concerned about the amount of shoulder he had then. I then saw him in Louisvillle a few months later and I thought he had developed very well and his shoulder did not seem to be as prominent as it did when he was a bit younger. He certainly was well muscled but I still wondered about his calving ease. As this bull gets older, he continues to appear to get better and better. I thought he looked amazing in Denver this year.

I have never seen him in person but loved the looks of him since he came out. We originally purchased 4 units and bred with all 4, no pregs resulted. We thought it was just our luck and we gave the semen a second chance, again purchasing 4 units. Again all 4 cows were palpated open. Total we bred him to 6 different cows, 2 we tried twice on it. They were in groups to get bred and had very good preg rates on everyone else that was bred to a variety of bulls. I hope this was just our luck and we can start to see calves soon! Once I see some calves (to know that he is working) I will purchase more semen on him and try again.

I saw him in November in the pasture and really looked him over, he is super sound! For a 3 year old he looks awesome. I believe he is th and pha free.

I don't think anything about the 90 lbs, but my guess is that they are going to come out like a block with his build, so I am not worried about the weight as much as the shape of the calf. She will be watched closely, hoping that the cow does not need my help. My guess is that we will get some calving reports come spring including mine.

I saw him sell at the dispersal sale. He was pretty hairy and pretty clubby looking at that time. i have not seen him since. I saw a glimpse of him at Denver and I will see if I can find that video.

His epd's suggest he will be difficult calving too. Just looking at the epd's i worry about using him on cows even. What do you guys think would you worry about the epd's. I love the looks of the bull and I especially like the he is TH and PHA free. Again I am really looking forward to reports in the spring.

two years ago, I would have told you not to believe a singel section of the shorthorn EPDs...  However, they've been 'modified' in that time frame-- and so the EPD's do a better job of reflecting BW potential...

Calving ease, and birthweight would be comparible to nearly every other major show winning bloodline in the shorthorn breed.  None JPJ based cattle.

If you'd use any other Trump based bull- then this one is no different-- even though I'm sure someone is going to tell you they are using Trump, Salute, and whatever else sired bulls on heifers or cows- and only averaging 80-90 pounds.

I see where it shows him to have a 90 pound birth weight but his brother Tuscaloosa has a 100 pound birth weight.  I looked up some of Tuscaloosa's calves and the are everywhere on birth weight, from in the 60's up to 110 plus,  I saw several over the 100 mark, which on big shorthorn cows 100 plus is no problem as long as the calf isn't to square.

Thanks balckdiamond. I only have 2 registered cows that I was thinking of breeding him to. Both pretty heavy trump bred a 5yr old Radio Active X Dixie Chick and a 3yr old Sull Brother Joe X (Navajo X Dixie Chick). They are both good size cows so it sounds like i probably wouldnt have to much to worry about. I guess I  may not wanna use him on the 3 yr old quite yet. We will see how this 2nd calf of hers looks.

I was unaware of Radio Active, or Dixie Chic having Trump in them.  I'm certain Navajo doesn't have him either...
