Thriller Bull

I am thinking about breeding this heifer to Thriller and am looking for input on your guys experience with this bull. Anything is appreciated.

Being that she is a heifer, I wouldn't breed her to thriller

I used Thriller on Shorthorn heifers without an issue.  To me they did not have enough grow to them. Stayed very moderate.

Look at Ali's Solution if she is free or Jesse James if she isn't.  Good Luck

I actually had not looked into Jessie James until now so thank you for the suggestion. The heifers sire is I-80 and dam is out of Jigsaw. She is a smaller framed calf so if thriller throws smaller calfs maybe it is best to look elsewhere. I have just noticed a trend in the high selling heifers which seem to come from thriller at least at the sales I've been to recently.
I also have a Char cross heifer out of Monopoly which I haven't decided who to breed her too either. Here is her picture if you have any advice let me know

I bred a Monopoly heifer to Mr Driven and got a real pretty paint.  Calve came very easy for her.

Oh and the high demand for Thriller may be because he is dead.  Semen is expensive too.

PinkOil Princess I think that the reason people are telling you not to breed your heifer to thriller is because he is not a heifer-safe bull

Which is totally fine because i wasnt aware of this that's why I asked for suggestions. I won't be breeding them until may so there is still time to hear more suggestions and advice. Thank you keep the advice coming I'd love to hear who you guys would breed these heifers to and why. The breeding aspect of show livestock is all new to me but it is something I want to pursue so the more help I can get the happier I will be

Well princess-you may not know completely how to breed em-BUT YOU KNOW HOW TO FEED EM-If you would go to FACEBOOK-go to Jakes Proud Shorthorns and look at that blue roan bull-I think youd have a hell of a calf out of BOTH of those females-Blues absolutely kick A%643s when bred to other blues-and they work like gangbusters on Charolais deals like that Monoploy-That blue bull comes from the breeder of PROUD JAZZ-with out a doubt some of the highest quality hiefer safe genetics (along with i-80)in existance-and BLUES SELL-at the very top of alot of the big-time and not so big time sales-(go figure) EG-they are getting VERY popular. O0

Those are two very nice heifers. With their breeding and also being heifers, I would be safe and use a sure fire calving ease bull that is not related. Look for bulls that can loosen them up structurally. They can get over cooked in a hurry. Personally would not use most of the high profile clubby bulls this time around in hopes for some heifers.

With that said I really like the Thriller bull.

I appreciate the complement. I take pride in raising and feeding my cattle and understand that it takes hours of hard work and research to get em good.
I really lik thriller too but from my understandings of this conversation I might just try him out next year

For whatever its worth.. If your heifers were mine, I would breed the blue one to Jesse James & I'd breed the smoke to Ali 2.

Since I've posted this I've researched Jessie James and I really like what he has to offer. I have heard suggestions of breeding my Charolais influenced heifer to Alias. Thoughts?

Not the first time to Alias. I would use Jesse James on both if you want to go clubby but like telos said I would look at a purebred angus for your first time unless you know family history of the calves.

Nice heifers ! I would definitely not use Thriller or Alias because they aren't heifer safe . Jesse James has been super popular this year and I think he would be a good option , next I think Ali's Solution is a really good calving ease and has always been a personal favorite . If you are wanting to breed your Char heifer to a Char bull I would go with  Cold Front a pure bred char bull you can find at Cattle Visions . Not only is he calving ease but gives his calves look and profile with a great disposition, he would work for PB makin or clubbys . Lastly I just want to mention Captian Obvious , he's a PB shorthorn that you can find at cattle visions , every time someone needs to breed a heifer he pops into my mind because he is an outstanding calving ease bull.best of wishes to you !

I use DMCC bodybuilder... I doubt you will get a great show steer... but we have one in the county fair deal.... but he will five nice females and is heifer safe

I would suggest jakes proud jazz on the char influence, and I-67 or jakes proud jazz on the blue

. Cool thank you for the input I hadn't even thought about taking the shorthorn route yet but definitely have been looking at possible Charolais bulls that would throw clubby cattle. I think for the most part I am sold on the idea of Jesse James with my blue roan heifer.
