Does anyone have any advice to share on this situation. There's this heifer that is absolutely sound when she walks in grass but when she has to walk on the asphalt or gravel to get to the ring she starts swinging out wide on her rear legs really bad. The first two shows she cut it out before actually going in the ring and she won the class quite handily (judges words, not mine). Yesterday she had a pretty far walk on the road to the ring and she did it in the ring and was put in last due to the crab walk. Is this an exercise issue or a legitament flexibility issue and what can we do to fix it. Like I said she fills her track on the move in grass flawlessly and she's a heck of a heifer. Will something like NS or glide help ? Thanks

It's more than likely a hoof tenderness issue.  She must have really soft feet for it to keep bothering her once she gets back on dirt.  Old timers would tell you to soak her feet in turpentine with some regularity, but you can't let it touch the hair.  Koppertox or such might help if you don't want to mess with turpentine.

Agree with Chambero, probably tenderness of some sort in the hoof, could also be a hoof trimming issue.

Would aspirin help alleviate the tenderness? I'll pass the advice along (I'm sure the owners will read this eventually  ;) )

Carry a roll of astro turf in the show box. If she is not functional I would change the enviroment to make her sound.

id try taking her over to the ring earlier and maybe trying to walk it out of her outside the ring or just let her stand outside the ring for a little bit. On grass if there is any...
maybe try getting her used to walking on asphalt... Some cattle just have weird quirks obout stuff that they arent used to... Just some suggestions.
