What are the joys of getting older?

I have been feeling a large amount of stress lately. I have had my first set of calves with one more to go and I also have finals for college this week. My semen bill has not come yet and I know it is going to take a good sized chunk out of my checkbook. I just want to know what are the joys of getting older. I know they are out there, I just haven't run into them yet. And for anyone that wants to know my age I am two weeks away from being 21.

Well... if you're into cattle I suppose it would be about 5 years, getting 'em paid for.  Think that's about the average.  (for us anyhow)  If you're lucky enough to pay cash for 'em then guess you're good to go pretty much!  The main good thing that comes with age.....EXPERIENCE! 
Enjoy your age, work hard (usually means another career to fund your cattle habit) but have some fun too!  Believe you me it flies by!

I guess growing older sure beats the alternative....... my Dad's famous quote "I would rather be old and tired, than young and dead."  

Joys:
Knowing what others will have to learn on their own - even though you've "been there, done that"
Knowing "things can always be worse"
Knowing "things can always get better"
Knowing that a broken heart will heal
Knowing it is better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all
Knowing that money isn't everything
Knowing that stress is what you make it - use it in your favor or it will be used against you
Knowing that no one really cares what your GPA was in college
Knowing you got the highest GPA possible for you

Appreciating that everything has a purpose (except june bugs - have found NO use for them yet)
Appreciating that the crickets are chirping to lull you to sleep, and not to keep you awake
Appreciating the smell of freshly mowed hay - enjoying the smell, and not see'ing the work
Appreciating that "tomorrow" is not a guarantee
Appreciating that living despite something is better than living in spite of something
Appreciating the fact that you have NOTHING to complain about compared to some people
Appreciating the fact that the bastards didn't get you down

I could go on... but I am tired and am going to bed.  God willing, I will get up tomorrow and continue choring!!

I agree with aj and Jill. I have no idea how many times I have gone to town to mail some letters and get there and realize I have left them at home.

JBarL .. I am the exact opposite to you. I have wore glasses since I was in public school,( which was back before the invention of the calculator or computer) and I find that I have to take my glasses off to do anything like read, watch TV or computer work. I also find that I am taking my glasses off more even to drive. I just had my eyes checked again, as this was concerning me, and I was told my eyes have not changed enough to warrant a perscription change on my lenses.

Getting older has not made me feel much different inside, except for the additional aches and pains that come with it. Actually, I am not getting older, but the body I live in is sure showing some wear and tear on it.

I would suggest that you try to find ways to reduce your level of stress. Enjoy what you are doing, and learn to accept the good with the bad. Work hard and remember that trust and integrity are two important ingredients of a successful beef operation at least in the longer term. These two things cannot be purchased but must be earned, so remember this in all you do. And try to have some fun along the way. The best work I have ever done was when I tried to have fun doing it.

My grandfather is now 94 years old and he accidentally used Nair on his head instead of shampoo. He wasn't too upset about losing his 5 hairs though. (lol)

The absolute best part about getting older is grandchildren. Had I known how much fun it would be, I might have tried to have them first.

I now have a 3 week old granddaughter. I absolutely love holding her and spoiling her and the best part is handing her back to her momma and me being able to sleep through the night!
Also, I have three kids in college. I couldn't imagine having to go to classes again, studying, writing papers and taking tests! So glad that chapter of my life is over.

Right now getting old is a b**ch!  I'm bruised sore and tired lol.  Went to the chiropractor last week felt good until heifer headbutted my arm into a fence post.  Then at the show this weekend out upright tack box fell back on me and pinned me to the side of the trailer.  Today is a dr. visit to check out my sore swollen bruised hand.

I'm waiting for getting older to get better lol (thumbsup) <beer>

You will know when you are getting some age on you when you are bent over lacing your boots and while you are down there you also look for whatever else it is you can do while you are down. OR, you stop to think a bit about what else you can do or get while you are down at the other barn.
Funerals seem to be a more often event you must attend.

At 21, you're a long way from qualifying as older.  Enjoy what you have now, it only gets more complicated.  The best piece of advice I could give you about any aspect of your life is to spend your time on the "critical few" issues  you have to deal with at any one time.  As you mature and progress through life, many demands will be placed on your time and money.  Learn to identify and focus on what's more important to the success of your family, job, and interests - in that order.  You can't do everyting and you can't please everyone.  Don't worry about what you don't have time for and what you can't change or impact.  If you try to deal with everyting, you'll get nothing done and be miserable worrying all the time.

I was going to say something really clever----damn, wish I could remember what it was!!  Ha, Ha!!

I now make the sounds I remember my father making when he lifted something or bent over---somewhere between a groan and a cuss--and probably for the same reasons!  The aches that used to tell me that I'd had a good time now tell me "junt don't do it!!"

If only we could have the knowledge gained over the years a little earlier and the strength and enthusiasm lost along the way sustained a little longer!!

I went to run and cut a cow off that was trying to get past me the other day & realized my run and walk are about the same speed.
