I better provide some more information before this thread gets off course. This is Oakbar Sonic not CF Sonic. He is a 2008 model and when I saw Cates had named their Tonic son the same as ours I thought we might have some confusion.
Oakbar Sonic is the first calf that our "Sugar"(Sonny X Charmer) cow raised. He won our local Prospect show as a calf and weighed exactly 800 pounds at 205 days. I sold him to a local commercial cattleman who used him on both cows and heifers and he's sired some really nice calves for him without any calving difficulties. I've always really liked the bull and when a couple of our best cows cycled late this summer I asked if I could put him in our pasture for a month or so. We just took him out yesterday, combed the burdock out of his ears and tail and took his picture in his "working clothes". A full brother to Sonic(Oakbar Weston) was the steer that did so well for us at the Midwest Steer Show---sixth on the hoof and Champion carcass. Sugar also cycled late this summer so I'm thinking about flushing her back to Tonic later this year and then breeding her for a 2012 calf. He's very moderate framed, extremely docile, and walks like a cat. In fact, he really enjoys playing with the calves although he looks a little out of place romping around with the pasture with them. I feel he is a good example of what the Shorthorn breed can offer if the right bloodlines are used. I've attached a picture of his mother.
