We just started picturing our sale bulls and hopefully can get most of them done today. Here is one of them. He is HC Bluebook 22B ET x. He is an ET son of Waukaru Orion 2047ET  and HC FL Sparkle Delight 2X ET. He is 10 months old here. He was born March 19th, 2014 with an actual BW of 85 lbs. He sells in the Sun Country Sale, March 10th at Johnstone Auction Mart, Moose Jaw, SK.
We only had 3 Orion calves in 2014, and after seeing them, we have purchased 2 more shares in him! I think all three are home runs! What do you think?

20B is a flush mate sister to Bluebook and she sold for $7500 at Agribition in November. 34B was Junior Heifer Calf Champion at Agribition.

Bluebook weighed 1105 lbs today ( Jan 25th/15) His actual BW was 85 lbs. Actual weaning wt 645 on Sept 24th/14. He has averaged 3.74 lbs/ day on a pelleted ration that is designed for 3.0 lbs/ day gain. Based on his gain since weaning he may have a 1303 lb actual weight at 1 year.

Real nice looking:and the kind of wound up Enticer that is functional all the way around-reminds me of the other tread Re RN Reed (Gary Kapers)bull-with Waukaru and some of the Hilltop cattle they used. Your bulls got one shot of good improver backthere (DCC Prophet) 2-3 shots of Enticer through the Goldwalk blood (Enticer has been debated forever as having maine) 4 Shots of Chi (Rodeo Drive) And what I still am going to state as a shot of Maine from IWF magic. But this lined Gold type breeding really works on the Canadian cattle-maybe more to my liking than any others.This is the type in theory that would really work on Gary Capers breeding as in his thread-The cattle at Lovings are lined up similar to this-and they are using a Caper bull. Wonder how that is doing O0

You are correct Mark. I only went back 6 generations in his pedigree. Most of the bloodlines you mentioned are back 8 or more generations, which according to The Canadian Shorthorn registry represents less than 1% of their genetic make-up. This guy is registered in Canada as 100% Shorthorn in one of the most stringent registries in the world. I probably should have called this thread a different title, but when everything you mentioned is far back, I still think there is genetic value in the bull.

Without question-Hes got the Gold Canadian look: which are some of the best in pictures I see up there-I hope someone sells semen on him or something like him-Hes deep and stout and whats now an outcross to breed to show and clubby females down herer the performance cattle and or semi-native cattle that arent real closely related but just as line bred.-and I doubt youd pull a calf unless its malpresented-The old Rodeo-Enticer-Mark 4 breeding was really good back in the day: with years of basically outcross breeding on the dams side. O0

I have never been a big fan of shorthorns, or maines even though my family had shorthorns  in the sixties. I love the old pictures of my grandfather with them. I must also admit they are my kids favorite to look at. If you guys keep producing cattle that look like these you may force my hand or using them. Nice looking cattle!

No aj... as I said earlier, I should have named this thread differently. When I posted it, I had only gone back 6 generations in his pedigree. I do believe having Improver 8 generations back requires testing for defects. I have actually seen the importance of this. A few years ago, I purchased a bred heifer in Alberta, that had a Canadian non appendix pedigree. When she calved, she had a TH calf. When I went back in her pedigree, I found Improver 9 generations back in the sire and 8 generations back in the heifer I had purchased. Obviously, both sire and dam were carriers.
In the case of the bull pictured, both his sire and dam have been tested and are free of all defects.
Even with these animals a long way back in his pedigree, he is still an outcross to many of today's bloodlines.
I should have DS tests results on his dam very soon. They were sent to Igenity about 3 weeks ago now. I sent samples in for 32 head ( sires, donors, past sires, etc) so I hope we don't get some surprises. His sire, Waukaru Orion 2047 has already been tested and is THF, PHAF and DSF. Bluebook was also parentage tested by DNA, so his parents are correct.

I like the bull. I wish we could send samples to Igenity however ASA rules ask that you send directly to Omaha and they send to  Geneseek. The turnaround time with Geneseek varies.

Sue, I have found the same thing with Igenity. I have had some results back in two weeks after they arrived at Igenity and some others were 6 weeks. I was told on these samples that I could expect the results within 30 days. We are at 3 weeks now and counting.....

Bluebook 22B weighs 1105 lb today which makes his gain 3.74 lbs/ day on a pelleted growing ration and grass hay. The pelleted ration we use is designed for 3 lbs a day so he is doing much better than that. Based on his gain since weaning he could have a 365 day actual weight of 1303 lbs.

How do you figure this bull is linebred?  He has an IBC of .79

On the Waukaru side goes back to Gold Three times, Rodeo 4 times etc-good cattle-very consistant very related maybe wound up has a similar ring to it- O0
