What to breed moderate american cow to?

Hey guys I have a moderate brangus female up super sound great ribbed good boned just needs to be squared up a little. Im looking for a bull to keep the character as well as being lighter birthweight (second calf). I have thought about paddy o' malley or something along the ali bloodlines or maybe irish whiskey but might be to clean. Thanks for any thoughts.

If you insist on black I will keep my opinion to myself as there are many who far exceed my knowlege on clubby maines but if a smokey would do well in your show look into a bull like Gridmaker or Firewater.  Both have calves dominating in the charolais circuit and good birthweights, I have calved char heifers to both unassisted.  Both will square a hip and add loads of mass, depth, length, and thickness while keeping reasonable frame size.  Both would give you a phenomenal heifer to keep and breed to a clubby bull and an amazing steer for a slick show and carcass competition.  I prefer Firewater of the two but Gridmaker is a guaranteed calving ease sire on anything bigger than a dog.

We have had success with Sun Seeker but I would not use him on a heifer.  Also, if you keep a heifer you will need to test her.

i like the paddy o malleys and dirty harrys. kevin that calf that makeyla terry has is a dirtty harry x braford. i know he aint the best steer but he sure squared it up and left some bone to spare

What you should use is Mancini.  Without a doubt.

can i get more info on the mancini bull? and stayin away from the charolais i run some charolais cattle and the firewater bull is a good one along with some others not a huge fan of gridmaker when looking for bull/steer prospects

do you dislike gridmaker out of experience or just numbers/pedigree/looks?  I ask because we have had some great bulls and steers out of him.  If it was experience what type cows did you use him on.  I find he works best on Wind cattle, either Wyoming wind daughters or granddaughters out of any of the major sons.  My favorit calf in the pasture is a gridmaker son out of a final sort cow, really thick and long but very smooth and he walks like a cat (granted he's only 4 months old)

I have both used and evaluated gridmakers. They were never thick enough for me but Im not sure what cows they were out of I have a really cool triple bred wyoming wind daughter the i might clean up to gridmaker after flushing her this next fall.

Mancini is an Ali son of Redgate Cattle in Ok.  I wouldn't disagree Charolais could be good like Firewater.  I just think there's too much grow in that mating possibly.  Mancini has a good ear set and will maintain some sheath.  I bought two Mancini bulls last year at Denver and one I kept is breeding strictly Brangus cows.  He is low BW also.  I've seen many out of him and they are consistent.  I hesitate talking about it much because I would rather competition not use him but since you asked.... my opionion.
