As soon as they hit the ground while I'm at home. If we don't get them then, by 3 months. Usually like to band. Will cut older calves.

We also do most things by the moon, just seems to work better.  We cut at 4-5 months old unless we have one that we think has bull potential, they tend to grow a little better intact IMO, the trick is to catch them before the start to get the bully head and neck.

I believe everything you said, except the moon thing!

I have a neighbor that always bands when they are born for the convince reason.

I also believe they grow better in tact.

we band the calves from the heifers here at the house  when they are about 1 month old, and cut the rest of the herd when they come off the deseret headed to the mountain when they are 2 to 3 months old. yummy calf fries    <cowboy>

We do ours in groups. The obvious culls get banded or cut at weaning, the rest have some time on test before we make further cuts. We have done both castration and banding at ages up to a year and have had good and bad experiences with both but prefer banding. We don't castrate anything until weaning and do feel they grow better left intact as calves.
