I'm looking for some info, and experiences with white Shorthorn bulls...  We have our blue roan goals for the year taken care of, and in case they don't work out, then I'll be looking for somebody to make blue roans with- on a variety of black cows.  I would prefer not the hear the name Gus 80c, or Sin City mentioned.  Lets move to different pastures...  I want to think outside the box on this one...  I know the owners of both bulls are on here, and I'm not downgrading either bull...  I just don't want everybody talking about them, and not saying anything about the bulls I want to know about...

Input on these or additional bulls is requested... Besides the two (Gus & Sin City)

Adrenaline
Casper
Notorious
Roanoke Flashback
Okie Dokie
High Roller
Vegas
or any others

Thanks

I have also talked to the A/T clan about their new bull Rock n R Train...  I like pieces of him, but his frame size concerns me a bit... Since our black cattle are moderate to average in frame scores.. And I don't want to down size them anymore...

I recently came across this bull while searching for something else.  His name is Jakes White Oak and I haven't seen/heard any discussion about him.  I'm curious if anyone's used him, or what his story is.  Looks like he's a half brother to Proud Jazz.

I just looked him up... He's only papered as a 3/4 blood... might be a set back for some.. although he is a 1/2 bro to jpj...  White Oak only has 3 calves registered out of him... 2 steers, and a bull...  Not bad for being born in 02.  NOT...

But I guess JPJ doesn't hardly have anything older than 2 registered out of him either, and he's a year older...  But then again... he's the greatest thing since sliced bread to some...

anything else?  anybody?

789 " registered "  progeny out of Jake's Proud Jazz - 90 over 2 years old - oldest date back to 2003. Not trying to change your mind about him or anything just had to look for myself after reading your post. He would not be one you should consider for your small framed cattle anyway. He's not the savior either but has been good to us.

5/800 are from his first '2' calf crops...
If it wasn't for the 'BF' farm, there wouldn't be hardly any out of his 3rd calf crop.
1/8 of his progeny are over 2 years old...  For an 8 year old bull, that leaves 7/8 born in last 2 years...
An 8 year old bull (who typically is approaching death within a short number of years), should in theory have grandoffsping, who should also have offspring...  How many times is that the case?  Prob not many..  But I don't know those numbers, don't have time to check...

His breeder has only registered 13 calves sired by JPJ...  3 of which in the last 2 years...

I'm not trying to start anything...  but when I look into using a bull, It is a good thing, for me anyways, to know that the breeder/ owner is at least using him fairly hard.  If they don't have the confidence in him, why should I?  Granted, I don't know how many cows the Jake Olde has,

Again, I'm not trying to start anything...  Now, can we get back on subject?

Isn't Vegas a full sib to Sin City?
I've been hearing a little buzz about Stream's new SH bull, Absolute, (Sonnny X Double Stuff), double clean. He may be worth looking into.

KF,  Ohlde's did use JPZ quite hard while they had possesion of him. They didn't register all their cattle due to not seeing eye to eye with the ASA.  Dustin Glover bought JPZ and 40 or so head of cows a few years ago.  The reason the majority of the calves being born the last 2 years is due to him finally being promoted by Glover and by Jungel's Shorthorn in North Dakota using him heavily and promoting him.  Ohlde's only advertise their Angus and Angus 2 cattle.  Jake has shorthorns and his brother Jordan has some Red Angus. Tim has numerous cattle projects he works on, he just doesn't promote them like the Angus.  Jake had close to 40 shorthorn cows until last month.  Jake had kept back his best cows when he sold his large group to Glover and started to rebuild his numbers from those cows.  I just bought 22 of his spring calving cows with calves on side.  I believe he has 6 spring calving cows and 10 fall calving cows left.  Sorry to keep you off your subject, just wanted to let you know that Ohlde's had complete confidence in JPZ or he would have been sent to the cull pen.

I have seen some really good vegas calves. Just watch what you breed him to since he is positive.

Interesting, thank you didn't know that...  By the looks of things on the ASA website, olhde's weren't to into registering anything... Only doing 10 or so in the last 5 or so years... nothing in 09, only 2, 3, or 4 in the other years...

I guess what your saying is that JPJ put Olhde's out of business... Was such a great breeding machine that they couldn't find a followup bull to use- so they decided to disperse the cowherd, and move on!!

learn something new everyday!!

Vegas is a full brother to Sin City, have heard good things about him too!

Anyways, I guess none of these other bulls are worth a damn, I will continue my own private search.

thanks

No KF, JPZ didn't put Ohlde out of the shorthorn business. Shorthorns were Jake's project, not Tim's.  Jake is going to be going to college soon and Tim doesn't have enough help to take care of the 1000 head they have , so numbers are being cut anywhere and everywhere. Maybe when Jake is out of college and has the time to devote to raising cattle, he will do so.  Good luck on your private search.

Shortyqueen has a darn good white SH bull. She has pictured him on the Planet B4. Someone with a better memory might know his name so that you could search easily here.

CAB beat me to it but I really liked the KMS Canasta bull when I saw him as both a calf and as a yearling bull.  I have also been impressed with some of his full and maternal siblings.  However, I have not personally seen many calves sired by him.

that is a bull that I had atop my list mentioned above...  I like what I saw on the owner's website...  Don't know if he was used by much more than the owners though...  didn't have much variety on ASA

Boy , kf you must have HDTV steerplanet & seeing words in Iowa's post that I can't pick-up or see  because I sure didn't read it the way you did.
Anyway back to your original post, JIT has a solid white Irish Mist son that I like the looks of & the breeding on  just don't know if he is available down here in the states.
