    Heifer bulls

What direction do you want to go, that might help narrowing it down. Personally all my hiefers get bred to my simm or angus low bw herd bulls with proven EPDs. Or if I AI I have used Hooks Shear force 38K with none pulled and good calves, Also used lucky break with good results and cows make...

    Calf Problem

Found one here......http://www.enasco.com/product/C27127N# But when I do it I use a piece of plastic 3-4 inch round conduit thats about 1/4 to half inch thick and that is split in half and about 1.5-2ft long. Then pad it with guaze and tape it up really well. Check with your local vet they...

    Calf Problem

If you do splint it, make sure to use a lot of guaze to pad it so it does not rub and leave a sore or get infected. If it does that your worse off than leaving it alone.

    BC LOOKOUT

Completely opposite here. I tried him on some ali heifers, simm heifers, and then on some angus and simm/angus cows. And didnt have a 1 that I liked. They were not overly bad calves, I just expect to get better calves using AI bulls than my herd bull and previous calves our of my Angus heard...

    breeding opinion

Meyer 734 is no easy calver by any means. Most of mine will throw big calves. I would maybe go with a easy calving simm or maine and hope for a heifer to keep you want a sure thing this year. Then for her 3rd calf you should be safe to AI to about anything. I really like my TNT ever ready son on...

    Hip Height Q?

Funny you listed those bulls, the only one I have not seen is Smilin Bob. But all the others have what I call a real world frame size as in they will make good feedlot calves if they dont make it in the club calf world. Sunseeker, Who, and Headliner all are on what I call large frame size. I am...

    salty dog

I thought he was the best young bull I looked at last spring at stud. His frame and bone looked like a 2 year old complaired to some of the new bulls out there. I think he will throw great calves that will top salebarns if they don't get sold for club calves. And thats exactly what I look for...

    Thriller

That is exactly right.....White faces does not bother me but with his markings and some cows I have white with I dont want 10 plus calves marked up like him. Just not going to take a risk of not selling them as show calves because if they don't it comes out of my paycheck for ever single one of...

No Im talking when mature not as heifers.

    Thriller

He was on my top 3 bulls I saw last spring at stud for new bulls out. Only thing I dont like is the white on him. Otherwise I think I would have bred many cows to him.

What is the Value of a herd sire.

Sounds like they were needing a tax writoff to even consider paying 90K for a herd bull. Most guys around my area will get 7years out of a bull. You figure 7 years and prob 50 cales a year for natural service equals  350 calves in a lifetime. Depending on markets you might make 300 dollars...

    Some pics for your perusal

Don't think you could go wrong adding some charl. Put him on some angus/maine/or simm cows and you will want to keep prob every heif out of him. My charl xcows always raise better and heavier calves than any other cows i have.

    Monopoly Mature Pic

Is it just me or does he look extremely small framed. You can tell the camera is clearly pointed to the ground to take this pic. I hope he was on a ladder when taking the pic cause it looks like his head is just barley above the fence. I really like the calves but I still hope for some good...

    CLUB CALF BULL

I love my eyes on the money calves, frame size has always been small though even on 1300 lb cows. And their temperment is not the greatest. The same cows have had sunseekers and had good calves with great temperments. Another that I like is ground zero, makes great cows and good steers.

    getting my herd started

Right now if your building the herd I would stick with only maternal bulls. Also If you want to stay sim/angus my recommendation would be about any meyer 734 sons. Cows are great mothers, milk great and will work with about any clubby bull further down the road. In my case I started out with 6...

    blocked teets

First try and squeeze them out really good and try and get some milk started. Then here is what I use. Just bought them from the vet. Deff get the stainless steel long ones, they make short plastic ones and they dont work worth a crap. These also come in handy if your milking out a cow, just put...

Double Shot of Twins, trouble getting one cow to accept them

Anyway you do it you prob want to pull one calf off her. Vary few cows can raise 2 quality show calves at the same time. Most of the time you leave any twins on any cow and you can always tell they are twins just don't grow as good when splitting the milk supply. My best cow had a set of My turn...

Salty Dog and One and Only

I didnt see salty dog at Denver but saw him early spring at Hawkeye. Im not a fan of his markings but his thinkness and foot size he was the best I saw from just about any of the young bulls at Nichols and Hawkeye that same day. One and Only was right with him as well. I did breed to One and...

What Breed Makes the best Beef?

I like pretty much all of them that are still a little red on my plate. I have raised and eaten quite a few of mine and liked them all, and if you blindfolded me and put down a herford, angus, and simm steak out of my own cattle I dont think I could tell you which is which. I think the feedlot...

    Growthiest calving ease Angus bull

I have had 2 different EXT sons that I never pulled a calf out of a heifer or cow. Calves born in march would average around 700lbs plus when sold the first part of jan. I used BC lookout a couple years ago hoping for some good replacements but never liked a single one of them steers or heifers...
