    A few bull pics

We have a JJC Wild Side daughter marked a little like JIT's wild-colored bull, except that she's only about 80% white.  Oakview's observation about combining Irish (especially Dividend/Leader 13th) with Maine is on target.  I have less experience with the milk lines, although we did sample...

    Very Frustrated

Registry Training January 16 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm The above is at Denver, right? There were videos up somewhere to help teach us the new ASA program.  Does anyone know where they are on website? You are right about frustration with this or about any program--National FFA, a few years ago...

    Very Frustrated

The quickest way to get an answer may be to email your question, especially if their phones are ringing off the hook.  Is there a new person now to help Jake and Kat?  At ASA they can give you control over your daughters cattle, but I think they have to set that up at their office.  On our...

    Pelvic measure data?

CE Maternal is one of our priorities.  How does pelvic area relate to CE maternal (CEM)?  Surely the shape of the calf enters in somewhere.  Patrick Wall wrote that serious breeders need to breed for CEM.  Like selecting for a good Shorthorn disposition, the older I get, the more I like...

Herbourne and the dam of the dam of Sutherland Titleist

Sutherland Titleist 269 was more moderate than his sire, Sutherland Titleist, a very leggy bull.  Sutherland Durango 813 is the sire of Sutherland 813 75W, the roan bull you pictured.  Both red 813 and 269 are bulls that David Ragsdale sells semen on.  Call David if you are interested.  I'm not...

Herbourne and the dam of the dam of Sutherland Titleist

We used both Titleist and Sutherland Titleist 269.  David is selling semen very reasonably on 269--see info on his Ragsdale Shorthorns website.  We much preferred 269 over his sire.  269 was massive, and I'm using him a little bit again.

    Merry Christmas

Dad (Burke) used to say that all he wanted/needed for Christmas was to get the family together.  The older I get, the smarter my parents were/are.

    Innovator

What is/was the difference between dairy (milking) Shorthorns and dual purpose Shorthorn?  I'm thinking both about the type and also the pedigree or registration.  While you are at it, what is native Shorthorn?

    Shorthorn Advise

Your cows are impressive.  Crooked Post Stockman, right?

    Wally Klose herd sire

Are you sure the person with the bull in the middle (Kenmar Ransom 32Z--Tank) is not Don Cagwin?

    not sure on shorthorn cattle

Mark T., what's the name or regnum of the red bull?  His sons are impressive.

    not sure on shorthorn cattle

How far are you from Warner Ranch?  Warner looks like they have working Shorthorns.  Two or more of their bulls are at Cattle Visions.  Is Crooked Post in Canada?  Surely they and many others would have females under $10K.  Montana is not in my back yard, but there are probably other practical...

    ET Weston Ablo daughter

I was at Weston twice, as I recall.  We purchased a couple of excellent herd bulls there--Weston Surprise 3rd and Weston Goliath (1200 lb. yearling weight).  Doc Nold purchased quite a few cattle from breeders such as Haumont (a pot load of cows) and Frosty Acres (Albaugh--sp.?).  Did he also...

    old shorthorn semen

Why don't you post this under the big show?  More people will see it there.  There are sons (and grandsons) of Leader 9th being used by some major breeders.  You also might try searching for those bulls in the Big Show forum.

    For Mark Tennenbaum

When I look at a bull (I've seen 4508 and Frontline), I look really hard, because a fault bred in can take many (even 5 or 6) generations to eliminate.  This herd, from 4508 on down, and from generations before 4508, is sound/fault-free, moderate cattle.  Look at trait leaders in CEZ.  There are...

    New WHR for Shorthorns

A breed association needs to do two things well--register animals and stay financially sound.  Anything else the ASA does for me is bonus.  I do not expect the ASA to sell my cattle for me or to breed a certain type of Shorthorn (that's the breeder's choice and responsibility--not that of the...

    Has any used JSF Broker?

Someone said that Broker was injured, and that was the reason for the price jump.  We have a fall calf by him that is stout and very moderate.  Broker will be used here again this fall.

    New ASA site

Go to the ASA website and register.  They will send you a confirmation email about the time--it is on Central time, but is it CDT? Where I live we are on Eastern time, and the previous webinar was an hour different than here, as I recall.
