    WS A Step Up

Wouldn't Uno Mas be a better alternative to WS A Step Up as a heifer bull?

Great Suggestion VC!  Experience talking right there...

What is your most used product

Show Sheen and Vinegar.  I do like the Sure Coat though.

    Lights for Chutes

I like the concept but do they give enough light since they don't run the length of chute and what about head and rear?

    Heifer breeding age

Depends on rancher you talk to.  At 15 months, the heifer should be mature enough to breed. Some ranchers / cattle people wait till they are 2 years old before breeding.

How do you feed your show calves; On the ground or raised trough?

I too have thought about this and I can see both points.  I feed in a bunker about 1 foot off the ground.  I guess that I want the show steer to eat as much show feed as I feed him.  If he cleans it up, with less stress on back and neck then all the better.  When I turn them out in the evening...

    Hauling Rates

I'm picking up a couple of heifers for myself in Okla, hauling to Gulf Coast area.  I've had inquiries from other people to haul back a few animals so they wouldn't have to make the trip.  Would $ 100 a head be fair? Thanks!

I'm sure the HLSR website will be showing the steer show starting Wed.

    PB Simmi heifer

There's a lot to like about your heifer from the pic.  It's hard to tell without her being on the move but she looks good from structure and soundness.  It's a little hard to tell if she has a nice set and smoothness to her shoulder because it looks a little straight.  I like the neck extension...

    Hot Simmental bulls

What are the odds that a Blaze Face bull throws a blaze face calf on a solid black tone cow? 50/50?

    Beginner Clipper Question

I applaud your efforts and enthusiasm, so go for it. We use the Lister Cover coat for goats, I also have a Fine blade to get shorter but Cover coat is good enough for us. Cover coat blade is fine for our county show rules and for all the jackpot shows. I think Andis makes a Handy Clipper for...

    Sullivan's Shock

i will try it tomorrow, have three to clip but I'm slow.  Kirk Stierwalt likes to spray the pro plus in hair with a blower.  Now that you mention it, the good clippers I know do not use anything. I used my buddy's Tiger Comb at San Antonio last week on heifers and I was surprised at how much it...

    Sullivan's Shock

Is it non-oily?  Is it the best product out there that raises the hair for clipping?

    stubborn heifer

Yes, lots of good info in the archives.  You can use one of those halters that have a ring so there is a slight relief when you let off pressure.  Similar to a horse, it takes patience.  Pull with a slight pressure and when she gives, release.  It may take awhile.  Get her used to life with a...

Good call on the bolus, that should do the trick..

    Dilutor Gene in Simmy Heifer

Thanks for the feedback.  I guess that eliminates the majority of bulls, because most seem to have the DL gene while looking on the Herdbook.  What are the chances if I breed her to say, Uno Mas that has the DL Gene that we'll get a smoky calf?

    Too much belly

The more shows I attend, the more cynical I become toward the industry.  The judge will give his reasons and talk about heifers being functional and productive as cows and some more than others.  They will go on and on about the reasons but I have a first calf heifer in the field that would get...

Wart inside the ear on a heifer

yes, rip it off, get a bolus gun and make them eat it.  Interesting about the Dr Scholls, haven't tried freezing..
