    Question about M.A.B calves

We have 24 MABs this year.  I think we had 12 last year but I can't remember. We've used him on pretty much everything but a Hereford and a Charolais.  Last year we pulled calves out of him.  This year only if there was a foot or head back.  Had 1 breech born ua. He is adding quite a bit of...

    Heifer Fertility

I agree with checking the bull. When you time bred do you see any standing heats? What are you feeding them? What is your mineral program? I never have bad much luck and haven't used 1 shot of Lut for probably 10 years.  Did you use CIDRs or just the GNRH and Lut?  What was your timing on...

Opinions on the 5-day CO-Synch + CIDR program

We do not see the strength of heats with Lutalyse. More importantly a few years ago we tried them side by side and the Estrumate cows settled better.  I can't remember the percentages but it was enough for me. I haven't googled it yet but do you have the information on the study?

    Selenium Dosage

This is per our vets and we are in a selenium deficient area.  If 80 lb calf we're giving 3 Bo Se and 1 MultiMin.  I would check with your vet though to be safe.  When we have a calf that is bad we will re-treat at 7 days with more Bo Se.  But you need to make sure your vet oks this.  You can...

    Sulfer Toxicity - MERGED TOPICS

knabe I think it's because most of us are eating our own ddg meat.

    Pelvic Measurements

We measure end of April first week of May right before we turn out heifers with the bull. I think you meant what is too small.  Our vet goes not only by measurement but shape and looks for bone spurs. There has to be a pretty good reason for us to keep anything under a 150 with an ideal shape. ...

    MAB

I've got 6 or 7 in the replacement pen.  They have grown very well, nothing too small or slow. I'm excited.  But they will all be pelvic measured. Our Monopolys rarely pass.  So I am concerned. The good part is if they fail I'm confident they will do well in the feedlot if they do anything...

    New to posting/trouble with eating

Sulfur is not the cause of all problems in cattle and bloat does not equal polio.  You seem to have a pretty good handle on this. Did he stop eating well about 2 months ago?  I will assume he is after a feed he likes the taste of better.  Molasses is not evil and adding that alone might get...

calve in a calving pen or in pasture question

Ours are in a lot under cameras during the day and then in the barn under other cameras at night.  When we are first starting each year it is way too far in advance.  I'm anxious and we have the room. As we get farther along I hope to get a few days on each cow.  They all are not locked in...

    MAB

I'm a pretty big MAB fan.  Getting bigger by the day during calving season and watching the replacement pen develop as the decision on keepers is coming up fast.  If they've got any pelvis in them I'll be pretty excited. I wish I could have been in Denver and I know I won't make it to Nichols...

    Sulfer Toxicity - MERGED TOPICS

Now we're going to get brain damage from eating beef fed DDGs? Please keep your unfounded paranoia to yourself and off a public board where anyone can stumble on it and make more problems than it's worth. Since you also claim all feed everywhere has DDGs this means you are a vegetarian.  With...

    Sulfer Toxicity - MERGED TOPICS

I was wondering the same thing knabe.  What do you want anyone here to say? If a reporter picked up your information and plastered it all over the front page of something it would do much more harm than good.  This is a known issue.  It can be managed.  It also can be avoided because you can...

    MAB price

I agree with CAB.  I remember seeing MAB more than once in recent results. Our MABs were not structural wrecks at all and he was used quite a bit before last fall.  Our BIMs had structure problems where our MABs do not. I have heard the same things about the clones which is interesting. I'm...

    Sulfer Toxicity - MERGED TOPICS

We feed and have fed DDGs for quite some time as we're close to 2 ethanol plants. Have you worked with ruminant nutritionist on your diets?  Are you feeding feedlot cattle or cows?  How many? I'm not sure why you wouldn't test each load especially when you're concerned.  And again the balancer...

    Sulfer Toxicity - MERGED TOPICS

I'm confused as to why this seems to be so confusing.  Sulfur is a well known potential issue. You test what you feed and add a balancer if needed.  Adjust your ration as needed for growth and I am not sure how this is any different than any other feed that has a potential for problem.

    MAB price

It will be interesting to compare quality between original straws and the clones. Maybe this will drive an increase in quality since we've had great conception with MAB and the other Rodgers bulls we've used.

    Liveauction questions

BTDT is exactly right.  It is far from isolated to the Red Angus sale and results in major problems when people start clicking more than once. Sometimes people click more than once because their bid does not show up and they run themselves up, their bid goes in way, way higher than they ever...

    Liveauction questions

Thomas it depends on the sale. You can pay for 30 days or for one year.  I am not a fan.  Too many errors and too much confusion.  If you want to bid I would get someone on the phone.

Barn camera setup I need, is it out there?

I actually do not have any foscams and I'm not familiar with that brand.  If there is a choice between a camera with a Sony lens and one that does not have it I would go with the Sony lens. The PTZ that failed is a Night Ranger. I wouldn't enclose them in general.  I don't have any cameras...

Barn camera setup I need, is it out there?

Can I list a company that is a problem?  I have a current BBB complaint against them after a PTZ camera failed completely at 8 months under a 12 month warranty.  We ran into some issues with the cameras being compatible with both iPhones and Androids.  Often they are one or the other. There...
