    Dream on on heifers

He would work but wouldn't be my first choice for a couple reasons.  I think semen can be pricey.  There are other good calving ease Dream On sons to use.. In Dew Time to name one.

    American Pride

The Doc Epd bothers me a little in that it is subjective.  I do think it is important but also think there are so many other factors... recip, natural dam, how the calf is handled, etc.    Firesweep.. your calves are pretty much handled daily from birth?  I would  think that even a 'bad' one...

    American Pride

Good call Frostie!  IMO, not long enough for it to be a big factor. No doubt it will get there.  Even if it were,he is only.54 ACC on that EPD which is not high enough to call it accurate.

need advice- county fair sale rules

Our county fair sale rules are pretty much the same way.  Our county also has a rule where only one animal can be put thru the sale for the premium but they can sell as many as they want at floor.  I know the top end rule on the beef was put into place in our county because all the steers go to...

Colostrum Replacer & other calving supplies

What is the best colostrum replacer available?    Needing to order calving supplies and not seeing the kind we have used in the past. Ideally I like to use colostrum collected from one of our own cows but calving season has not started and I have nothing in the freezer so I feel like I need a...

Simmental bull on Commercial Angus Heifers

Another simmi bull to look at for calving ease would be RCR Stetson.  And I agree, if you can get shear force at a reasonable price he would work as well.

Simmental bull on Commercial Angus Heifers

We've used Goldmine a lot on hfrs and the only assists we've had are with malpresentations.  Calves come small and shape right but don't have as much grow as some of the other sires but if you are after a live calf then he works.  Have also used a lot of In Dew Time and he is our 'go to' bull...

    Showmanship-class deal breakers

I have no answers..  hoping I see some on here that will help me understand this better too. I have decided that the more I watch showmanship classes - especially the senior division. the more confused I get.  I witnessed a shoving match at a junior national this summer that was like Black...

    Upgrade Question

Coachmac, We haven't had a bad one yet, but takes them awhile to get there.    Sure is a big difference from the Broker calves which are good from day one and just keep getting better.

    Upgrade Question

We've not used him a lot but have used him on a variety of cows.  Ours have been pretty small and as calves are forgettable.    They finally start to come on later... after weaning.  One thing I have noticed is that you have to watch as they can get a bit round appearing in muscle pattern.

    Swine help, Beginner needs help

They need to weigh about 285 when finished.  Check your rule book for the minimum and maximum weights.  We've been to shows where the judge has used a 260# pig and other shows where they use a 320# pig.  They should not be overly fat, and should show plenty of muscle expression.  IMO the 320#...
