do you use AAOK feed ration? I'd so, please read.

We feed something very close to his ration. The CS hulls are fine and we put beet pulp in ours too. The molasses in ours is wet and may require a little tweaking in the winter. This winter our feed mill complained they couldn't get it out of the mixer very well. We use a mineral pack made by...

How quick can I AI after calving?

Can AI as soon as she comes in heat for you. If I don't see a heat within 60 days I have had good luck synchronizing and then breeding. Of course if you want the best or usually fastest result put her with a bull as soon as she calves.

where can I buy SureChamp in my area

If you get on biozymes website the parent company of Vita Ferm there is a dealer locator link and type in your zip and it will tell you the closest spot. I know there are dealers around Ottumwa but there are probably places closer.

    Herf Steer For Reserve Grand

From the cow prefix the cow was bred in Iowa at Streams.  Idk if they bred the steer or just the cow. I believe I saw it was out of a Purple Reign bull.

    New to posting/trouble with eating

Sure champ would really help at this point. Had a heifer that was a chronic bloater and she never did it again after starting it. Made me a believer way back before it was popular. Also next time try a garden hose to let down bloat. The above heifer was so bad I kept a garden hose to be able to...

    Hereford Heifer

Get her dehorned. Surgical is the better option usually and it's better to do before the flies are out. When I first start working hair on a Hereford I comb strait down then strait forward if it wants to curl I comb it strait down again before going forward. It may work in a few days or could...

Calving Date vs. AI Due Date

If your going to register the calf just DNA it. Probably too close to call. I had a cow that was ten days over and have had some go two weeks. All Hereford too

    N/C frozen septic pipe

I am hoping that's an option by the end of the week. The neighbor is coming over today to move the 3-4 foot of snow from the area of the top of the septic tank then it's suppose to be warm with rain the next couple of days so hopefully we will be able to dig up the lid. It's only a foot down...

    N/C frozen septic pipe

We were gone from home for a few days last week and came home yesterday afternoon to a frozen septic pipe. Of course, we didn't realize until someone used the toilet and put sewage in the tub. Plumber came today and removed the toilet and pumped everything that he could til he hit ice in the...

Ring Worm Just won't go away

We still use the fluid film. It's a rust corrosive spray. Scratch off the flaky stuff and spray it on. Always wear gloves for ringworm I have ended up with it more times than I want to count.

Personally I liked General Lee his feet weren't near as bad in person. I also liked Recks Simmental bull. There were quite a few that in mho shouldn't be there.

county fair show- groomed or slick?

I showed in a county that had one of the biggest show cattle breeders in the US in it. When I started I was told to watch the kids show and watch them fit and to learn from them. All 4 kids by the time they were 10 could fit. Even if it was a blow and go show or a slick show they would have won...

need advice- county fair sale rules

It depends on where your located but in most counties in the Midwest that I have worked with they are not terminal shows so they are just a premium auction. Most Midwest county fairs are before state fair so to keep them competitive the kids retain ownership. The local sale barn does come...

calf with bad leg need help

I had a calf just like this last year. Give a shot of Bo SE and leave it in the barn for a couple of weeks. That was the advice my vet gave me last year. Let the cow out but don't give it a ton of room to run. Ours was in a 10x20 pen. It could move and get strong but not over do it. After 2-3...

    12-13 month bull mature enuf?????

If the bull is 12 months now and semen checks with only 6 head I don't see a problem especially if your not breeding til spring.

    cow is late

We just had one go 9 days over. As long as she is progressing along like she is going to calve I wouldn't worry too much

    Short steer

Depending on the age of the calf use more of a grower ration and back off the fat.
