I80 is the only heifer bull on that list.

when will the show industry start to reflect the production side?

Where are you from? Here lately those 3 weight pigs have been the ones getting docked on the Smithfield lines. They are wanting those pigs coming in at 260-268 and thats about perfect. They're killing 33,000 a day at the big plant down here and thats what they are preaching. The bonuses on...

Breeding to Ace of Diamonds or Simple Man

Thats a fair enough statement. I think if you look at the cow, and especially the way she comes out of that forerib, then it will be a good idea of what the calf will do with ace on the top side.

Breeding to Ace of Diamonds or Simple Man

I've had the exact opposite experience, but that's just me.

Who makes a showbox as described?

Sullivans is the only one I know of that makes them.

    Defect free vs dirty bulls

A lot of people breed dirty dirty and still get away with it when it comes to the TH deal. Wouldn't dare try it on PHA, but iut sure does increase the chances of a good one playing with it on the TH deal. I know of a good many people that are breeding Monopoly to carrier HW cows to soften them...

Saw him in Louisville working for Cyclone Trace. I had heard he is still in Iowa with them.

    One and Only calves

Had one of the 1st ones born this year, and she slid right out of a 4 year old. Weighed 81 pounds and shaped right. Not saying I would go breed him to a bunch of 1st calf HW daughters, but I wouldn't be scared on something non clubby.

    Free choicing Silage

Agreed, and if I could add one more thing it would be I would be more worried about them eating to much concentrate that is mixed in with the silage. Due to the typical water content in silage along with the ADF values typically seen, I wouldn't be too worried about free choicing it alone, but...

Cut the BS ( or whatever your current name may be)

LLBUX, I totally agree with you regarding the mutual respect. However, if you'll read my post (maybe I wasn't clear enough), the main reason I responded to this was because I felt that a poster was being attacked personally and after watching the way the board had been the past few weeks, I...

Cut the BS ( or whatever your current name may be)

Listen folks, I've met Jody before and in my opinion he is an upstanding honest fellow that knows a good bit about cattle, and has been there and done that a good bit more than a lot of people that are on here raising a stink. I don't see where you people are getting that he is being negative at...

Problem with Club Calf Industry...thoughts please

Let me give you some advice. Before you go blabbing about how he has no idea what he is talking about, do a little research yourself before you look like a complete idiot. Whoever told your that definition wasn't right, it all goes back to 4H clubs. I have met the person you are calling an idiot...

    FLUSH opinions

How many good structured ones have you found? Sure is harder to find a good structured one than it is a bad one on those Alias Maine type deals. Straight off of all ends and crippled suckers are pretty much the norm if you aren't careful with those genetics. As far as line breeding Heat Wave...

    FLUSH opinions

Eye candy sure won't add frame, and Alias on a Fear This is asking for a train wreck on structure. I'd say Monopoly for a guess without a picture. Bleeding Purple I'd go back with Monopoly or a Bojo type deal. Suh isn't proven yet, and thats not something you see him being used on very often...

Its considered a protein source in the industry, but it is also pretty high in energy.

    Alfalfa haylage 150 per ton

Depends where you are, and what haylage it is, but I would say $200/ton based on dry matter for Alfalfa is a good starting point. I would guess those bales to be about 50% dry matter on average, so you're looking at $100/ton wet (haylage).

NAILE Open Shorthorn Show - a couple interesting facts.

I guess it varies by market as last weekend I saw commercial boys paying $7500 a pop and buying them 3-4 at a time. The Beef business is banging right now, and good producers realize that this is a very small investment in the future.
