    ''Good Showmanship Questions''

I think this is a great debate. After having the great honor of judging showmanship with my much better half at the Limi Jr. National this summer, I think interaction with the judge is more important than specific questions. We talked to the top 10 showman with more the idea that they needed to...

    heat losses in feedlots

Just like JBZdad we live in Great Bend and our area was hit hardest with death loss. Not only heat and humidity but an uncommon lack oof wind made for a worst case deal out here. I have only been checking cows before 8:00 am and going back to check water and not stir the cattle at 4-6:00pm. not...

    Smiling Bob

I was at REI this morning and saw Smilin Bob. I like as well or better than I did in Denver. I really liked the bull before he was clipped in Denver and have seen nothing yet to change my opinion. He looked great in the pen today in Stillwater and I am very happy to have cows bred to him for...

    Breaking a bull to show

Building respect is a thing only used when there is danger for the cattle or to people around. Jerking a bull around by his nose is not at all what I meant. They do respect it no matter what, even if they have never had any pressure on it. Making them trust you first is very important, a timid...

    Breaking a bull to show

The nose ring is a necessity. My first step would be to tie him up and let him fight it out with a pipe rail. Then I would go in and scratch on him and find what he likes and repeat it over several times. Wash him dry him and build trust first. After that use the ring to build respect.

    new herd bull

Dam is an Eagle 255 daughter. I think his adg. yearling wt. was 1244 and in Denver they framed him at a 5.0 but I think he is just a little bigger than that. Far from a 6.0 however which is what the mature frame on Gus came out to be. Should be great to use those two on each others daughters as...
