Since I'm not there, do you really like the bulls or do you like the presentation and hype?  Not saying anything negative about any of the bulls.  There looks to be a pretty good group.  It's just you have look away from the banner, forget who the owners are, look through the hair, and not listen to everyone round you.  Now who do you really like?

That "hype" is rather important when it comes to marketing the next calf crops from these sires. The names on the banners, thats rather important when it comes to marketing your calves. and the hair, well needless to say, thats rather important when it comes to marketing your calves.

If the calves are small, poorly put together or unsound no names or amount of hype will ever help you...
I posed the question because I wanted to know more about the bulls than their sires, breeders and cow families.  What is it about Johnny Football?  What about I Believe should make me want to check him out?  What are people seeing in Fu Man Chu that they like?  My post started out saying "Since I'm not there...". Wouldn't you like to know more?

I thought it was the best set top to bottom I have seen I Believe looks exactly like Believe in Me.  I thought Johnny Football blew Texas Tornado away.  Sugar Rush is massive maybe a little more shoulder than i would like but could be a cow changer.

I would agree, although I do favor walks alone over believe in me....I favor i80 line over eye candy any day. I must say though sugar rush from the pics has really sparked my interest.

i thought i believe was the best bull on display.  He was super stout, big footed, good haired.  not the longest fronted but good fronted.  springsteen was also impressive.  Big middled, long bodied and the right size (not to small)  not as naturally thick as I believe, but still had plenty.  Fu Man Chu  was really nice, not as good as his pic makes him look, but he was to dissappointing.  I was very disappointed in texas tornado,  he toed out on all four feet very bad, not real stout either.  color pattern and hair make him cool to look at. Johnny football was ok, way better than texas tornado, but i still thought just average.  dont remember his name at the moment but the unstoppable bull was also very impressive in his muscle thickness.  very stout.  i also liked chocolate milk.  very uniform and correct.  doesnt excel in one thing but a nice bull.  i really didnt care for bo diddly, or extra salty, cant remember a few of the others.  I thought quality was better than the past few years.  just my opinions, for what they are worth.  i also dont have any ties to any of the bulls, just tried to give my opinion.

I believe was the best clubby bull in the yards hands down.  Not only was he stout, big ribbed, and good looking, most importantly, all four feet were pointing in the same direction and based on his testicle size, I would say there is a chance he might actually make some semen in a timely manner this spring. .  I to also had the chance to see him as he was walking back to his pen on Saturday and was very impressed with his structure. Although I am not a big fan of Walks Alone, I did think that Sugar Rush looked the part and deserved a spot in the top 5, just really complete.  Did not get to  see him walk, and knowing the problems the Walks Alones have with their pasterns, that kinda scares me.  I was not a huge fan of Texas Tornado or Johnny Football either one, mainly because I have never been a huge fan of anything with Get It Done in their pedigree.  I think they can both work on certain cows, but I think Texas Tornado would need to be bred to big bodied, big footed types of cows.  He has the power, just did not like his body dimension or his foot size relative to his bone size.  Not sure how much bone he really has.  Johhny Football was big bodied, hairy and appeared to be big boned, I just question how much true power and muscle he really had. I guess he did not hit me hard enough as a great colored bull.  I thought Fu Man Chu had some pieces, but I also thought he got pretty relaxed in his top.  Unless I missed something, I thought General Lee had some nice things to offer.  Seemed to be stout, true boned(not a bunch of extra hair to make him look big boned), and the right length of body to make state fair weigh back steers. He might have toed out a tick though.  If you need potential calving ease with extra shag in a double clean package, I thought the Revolution bull that Goddard had could work.  Skyfall also intrigued me for a potential calving ease option as I have always thought the Messengers at Frye and Trienans were good.  From a female making standpoint, I liked the look of Frye and Foremans simmy bull, Uprising.  I am not sure he is the absolute stoutest thing in the world, however, he seemed extremely large testicled and really good looking for a purebred. Just my two cents.

Top three for me (not in any particular order) Sugar Rush- extremely stout, big boned, square, and sound. Maybe a tick too much shoulder but with that much stoutness your gonna have a bit of shoulder. I Believe- super complete, stout, hairy, good footed, sound, and probably the best fronted in Denver. Chain Reaction- real complete, good footed, sound, square, just a good complete one. Maybe needs a tick more lower quarter but still a real good one. Just my thoughts.

I think overall there were some great bulls this year. Congrats to all the farms that displayed this past weekend. I know it wasnt cheap.

That expense is what makes me scratch my head. It doesn't appear from the reports and pictures that there is anything "new and improved." Just some solid black ones with the same pedigrees. Nothing overpowering AND a different pedigree like Hard Whiskey last year. Nothing that has a high probability of producing better than their sire. For instance, I know I Believe has a nice moma. Will he consistently produce better than his sire? Not likely. I am sure they will sell enough semen on him to come out fine, but what about the rest of the guys that display these bulls that are no improvement over what is already available.  And why would you go to all the expense to display a bull that has all 4 feet pointing out like the reports on that one bull? No shorthorns on display this year? Something would have to be different about a bull to justify the expense and effort of displaying one there to me.

I really liked Ready to Rumble, I Believe, and Springsteen the most.  The three brothers, Johnny Football Texas Tornado and The Lain Train, just didn't get my attention as much as the others.  I was kinda disappointed with those three. But overall, everything was good.  Not bashing any bulls JMO

What makes you think I believe will not produce as good as his sire?

I didn't say he WOULDN'T. I said is wasn't likely. When you continue to mix up these genetics, 3, 4, 5 way crosses, the consistency goes away. And what if he DID produce AS good as his sire? Why not just use his sire? That was my point.  I don't understand going to all of the expense to promote something just like what is already available.I wasn't even saying he might not be a great bull, but does he look much better than his sire? No. Is he likely to be a better producer? Maybe. Not likely. Will Wade sell enough semen on him to pay for the marketing? Probably. But I would submit that many of the people who would buy semen on him would buy Believe in Me if I Believe was not available. FOR ME, if he is a registered half Maine he could be more attractive because I need to be able to register progeny. I am not sure if his dam is a purebred or not.

But he is the consensus best one there. What of all the others? How are many of these people going to justify the expense of taking bulls that are just like what there already is to choose from? If you want the experience, the fun, I can certainly get that. It's like owning a race horse. Doubtful you'll get your investment back, but it is a lot of fun. But from a business standpoint, I don't see how it makes sense. That's all I was speaking to.
