What are these calves used for?

Club calves?

Haven't seen too many gcc bulls from genetics that have much semen sales.

Haven't seen many gcc deep pedigrees.

Show cattle Knabe.
Irish whiskey, broker, steel force, chopper, cervesa,  wizard, chill factor, gold standard, duff Angus 011, are just a few of their bulls that have done over $50k in semen sales, a few over $100k+. A lot of folks fooling with commercial  show cattle has some of their genetics in their herd.  (thumbsup)

I happen to have walked through a couple bull studs recently. As usual, some fairly big named bulls left me wondering why anyone would ever use them. At one particular stud I found 5 bulls out of everything in the barns that I would be willing to use. On the ride home I noticed 4 of the 5 bulls I found interesting were all in their bull catalog.

Gargantuan, I think Knabe was trying to shed light on the fact that of the bulls you mentioned, only Chill Factor, Whizard and Gold Standard were bred and turned out by GCC breeding. No doubt the bulls are popular, he just wanted to know, what good ones come from their program? Where do they go? If one using their genetics, what is the best market, as their big focus seems to be "Grass to Grid". What grid?

Some people hang their hat on being the breeder of substantial, phenomenal bulls, other people are humble enough to rather be the owner and collectively assemble a battery of good bulls bred and raised by someone else, others are just satisfied having a blend of the two.

the phrase "grass to grid" does not imply a show ring application.

Perhaps the sale should be renamed?

Who uses these cattle for excelling on grass and on the grid with no grain.

Perhaps the excel on grass and on grain, then the grid?

Not sure why show cattle, if that's what they are , have a commercial sounding advertising program.

Stacked Curia and Irish whisky influence in no way excel in performance of any kind, both in terms of carcass quality or performance. Perhaps there is data otherwise.  Not sure about the other Bulls in the battery

The sale is called the GCC Classic . Their bull sale in the spring is or was called the grass to grid bull sale. Not sure why u and xxcc got off in left field  but the original post was about the Classic sale this past Saturday.  I'm not a gcc pr guy so maybe call John about ur dismay over the name of his bull sale. Like usual, so quick to be critics instead of sticking to the original topic ... (argue)

I get it.  They have show cattle. That's it.
This sale is the female equivalent of the grass to grid sale.
Thanks for the clarification.
All those cattle, no data.

Whizard will add more rib shape and fleshing ability than any other simmy bull that I have used. They also are very attractive patterned which is favored in a show environment. Pretty damn useful Cattle, you should use some of these bulls then you’d know.

A neighbor has used whizzard. I've used two whiskey sons.

I would say whiskey and sons need to be used on bigger more powerful cattle and that breeding type to type and or linebreedibg w them you will end up with dinks real fast.

Gargan, I didn't go off in left field. I shed light on Knabe's inquiry. Griswold's sell t.o.n.s of bulls. Those bulls come from this same cow base. Hence, how good are the cows? They are neat. I like the theory. No need to get hostile when someone asks a mind bending question. The bottom line is, where do they work and are they as good as the hype? Maybe, it just depends on the application.

I know one thing, GCC has a much larger offering than I do. Asking questions is not out of line and certainly not out in left field. Maybe I hope to someday offer something influential to their program. Turn the tables, have them use my bull instead of me using theirs.

I can only speak from my experience.I have around 12 cows from the cattle that were in S.D. branch which I believe were called Birkline that were dispersed.Even though they weren't cheap they have proven themselves in the pasture .The reputation on the Griswolds cattle helps sell their offspring.Cattle that have good phenotype that are  good producers work much better than high EPD cattle in our operation.I would say their cattle are more maternal bred than most which eliminates a lot of problems with soundness that has been a problem with some heavy muscled cattle.

Exactly, that is case in point. For example, the 2017 GCC sire catalog is titled, Where Maternal Matters.
