people who use these bulls know in general who he and his type are, are not afraid to use them and yes, he lives at a stud farm, has been jumped, don't know how often and yes.

i would never have the insight to create him or courage to use him.

he is deceptively very open fronted.  if you walked around him, you would be shocked.  his pelvis is extremely boxy, and i've rarely seen a more cute headed animal.  he also is probably the most structurally incorrect on his feet of any animal i have ever seen in my life.  i couldn't really see it in his shoulders and pelvis as i didn't have enough time to analyze him.  he is the opposite of what i typically see in splaying out up front, in that i feel it is because of his open front rather than being pinched in his heart girth with his elbows in which is, in my opinion, a leading cause, well symptom of splay footedness.
What are you talking about?  You make no sense.

he's ugly, small, a cripple, huge headed, coarse, a carrier, open fronted everything one would want in a club calf bull.  i can't figure out why people use bulls like this when the hit rate for steers is low, and the retained heifer rate should be zero.  there are too many bulls like this, but people use them terminally, and fool people that the females have value.  to me, they are worse than PHA or TH because there is no test, nor will there ever be.  they have the potential of staining a breed if used commercially far worse than PHA or TH because no one will know what they are and have the potential to do, ie be unpredictable.

I like the maxim bull. I'am  pretty sure he came from Brad Larson in Wess Springs SD. He's out of good looking witch doctor cow that brads had for some time. When i saw him this fall he was stout!!!!!!!!!! If you need to put some hipp and muscle in to one he should do it. I hope to use some.

Well I don't know about you, but that sure isn't the type of bull I would want to use, so I don't know what your talking about.

wouldn't use him.  he isn't mine.  he is the "type" club calf people use in working clothes.  perhaps the reason you don't know what i'm talking about is because people want to use these clubby bulls but don't know what they look like other than in a dolled up picture.

by the way, he is a pha th carrier.

Knabe why not tell us what you really think. Why sugar coat it?

The picture is a great example of why we all need to go through the bull studs once in awhile B/C he is exactly what a large percentage of the club calf bulls do end up looking like.

Well, it doesn't really matter how they look in some cases, it's how they work.  I guess people learn how the bulls work from other people using those certain bulls.  I heard once that Heat Wave was a cripple bad, and look how he works.  Just look back at every show in the country and his calves have won it.  Usually if a bull doesn't work in the first couple of years you never hear anything from it again, but usually if a bull looks like that enough people get around, and the word gets out that the bull is a piece of junk, and people shy away from using that "type".

Whats with the white square on Texas Twisters tailhead? Photo shop?
That is just his color pattern.  It is a bad place for a white spot as far as fitting and picture taking goes.

one must remember that what kind of cow you need to breed to these bulls and why in general, you don't want females out of them.

that said, they have their place, and it's not in herds for replacements.

oh knabe, you about gave me heart failure....  thinking this is the type of bull you used!! Then I read one and realized it was an example of what 50% of the bulls at stud would look like if they were in the pasture.... another 40% would be dead, and 10% might look ok. (IMO anyway)

I think your right though, most of these bulls are promoted on hopes and dreams and the "anything for purple" idea.  Same reason why a bred heifer will bring more than a cow and calf... its the hope and dream that the unknown will be better than the given...
You also made a very good point in that these are TERMINAL bulls... meaning their offspring are not meant to be kept as replacements or long term cattle. A few exceptions are out there, but then most of them are not "known" in the show ring. Usually one or the other...

In the freakazoid club calf world there may new problems appear I assume. Monkey mouth was just a weird freak till a pattern developed. Then genetics were figured out. Same with th and pha.jmo

I like Big Jimmy. He looks the longest, deepest and softest made. He also is not a Heat wave! I don't know much about Jimmy the Greek, are there many females out of him producing?

Does anybody else get a picture of Tiger Woods when they click on True Blood?

agree.  rarely will you see heat wave types being bred type to type.  in fact, it's the opposite, which is why you need so many numbers to find one that will be consistent.  the odds are against one to find one that is consistent, which is why there isn't a replacement for heat wave.

i think i would do a 3 hole heave if i saw a linebred heatwave, well i guess i already did that with the bull i pictured.

i'll post another one (bull) if i can disguise it enough.

Looks to me like Trading Favors' right front leg is from a completely different picture.  Makes you wonder what the are hiding.  Is he straight, just light b oned or just standing funny.  As much money as it takes to promote a bull, why wouldn't a person go ahead and video too.  Would not add that much cost and would give the buyers a whole lot more confidence.  But, then again you can't jack with video, yet anyway!

Why the bull studs let idiots with cameras within a hundred miles of their bulls in working clothes is beyond me.  As much as people bitch about bulls being fed, fit, and photoshoped, heaven help the bull who is seen without it.

Here's a shocker, you breed to terminal bulls for terminal steers because of what the steers look like, not the bull.  Forget terminal, even Meyer 734 wouldn’t stand a chance with some of you people.

The looking down your nose b.s. is really starting to saturate this board.

I agree with carl. Club calf people are very honest, serious cattle breeders that really care about the integrety of the beef industry in general. These are the people we need more of. People to teach our children the right path. Role models for the most part.
