Had a very bad experience yesterday with Jeremy Ruble judging a show we were in. It is one thing to sort the cattle inconsistently. The things that bothered me most were taking a selfie of himself in the ring, snapchatting while in the ring and the thing that topped it off was excusing junior exhibitors from a showmanship class when he asked them which local college team they were a fan of, the kids who weren't for the same school as he liked were dismissed from the ring. I feel this is totally unfair the kids showing their projects, to be discounted for something that entirely doesn't relate to the cattle they were showing. This is one individual who I feel should not judge any shows at any level if he is not going to conduct himself in a professional manner while working a livestock ring.

You had to make a new profile for this??? Send a letter to the selection committee with your concerns and they will usually take action. Or for faster results talk to the judge after the show, sometimes there is a misunderstanding between judge and exhibitor and it let's him know that that may have been a boneheaded thing to do. Most judges aren't evil they just do some bonehead things sometimes and I promise you they won't do them at the next show.
One year a showmanship judge told kids to put their thumb in the corner of the lambs mouth as they where holding them. Several kids got bitten. Not evil just boneheaded, and I never saw him do that at another show.
Every judge I know wants feedback after a show (many times during). Leave your emotion in the stall and just have a conversation you may both get some clarity.

Nice first post. I see your from the school of :'(
Wasn't saying anything about getting beat, I am fine with it if it is justified. Just not fair to eliminate kids based on something not related at all to showing. Have already talked to the selection committee, pretty sure he won't be back next year.
I do not know Ruble so am only going on the original post. But what the judge did was not "boneheaded" but totally inexcusable. Using a cell phone while judging??? (I do not care the reason.)

Those things are not "boneheaded" but unprofessional and inexcusable. Maybe venting on here was not the "politically correct" thing to do, but sounds like he did talk to the committee so he/she did the right thing. I would doubt if talking to the judge would have accomplished much but maybe could have gotten his side of the collegiate question (that is the only thing that he might have been able to explain away.)
Judges need to be super aware that EVERYTHING they do is seen and heard. Sort of like a teacher or politician. The kids worked hard to have their 5 minutes in the ring. The least the judge could do is give them their undivided attention.

There's no excuse for the cell phone in the ring thing, but which college team do you root for??? Do you know for a fact that he asked every kid in the ring and excused every one he didn't agree with, or did your kid just happen to like the wrong team and also just happen not to make the final cut in showmanship?

I do not believe so Xbar. There is a major drop in quality of judges at podunk shows very rarely are these judges vying or wanting to possibly judge a major some day in my opinion most of time it is a good friend putting on a show and they ask their buddy that has some knowledge to come judge. There are exceptions but most of the time this is what I see happening.

Young inexperienced people do things that ain't real smart but they ain't been enough miles to know better. Heck, he was so tickled to be there, he wanted a picture.
