    One In a Million

Saw him at hawkeye early this spring. He was in the pasture so I didn't get a real close look. He looked like a powerhouse but smaller framed. Also he did not have hardly any hair on him. He was bigger than some of the bulls but almost all of the new bulls I saw were all 6 inches to 1 foot...

    semen prices

Heatwave I have seen 200-300 dollar range. Ali, last I heard was around 200, Meyer 734 if you can find it will run the most. Last guy I called on some 2 years ago wanted 500 a straw.

    Best Simmental Bulls right now

I have always liked Remington Red label, the red is the only thing that does not work for me. Also has anyone seen or used RC CLUB KING 040R, he looks like a great bull. I have some Lucky break cows I raised and they have kinda ugly fronts and heads but the calves look great and are some of the...

has anybody seen? 1-in -a million, and some others

I saw one in a million early this spring at hawkey, he was out in one of the pastures so I didn't get a close look. the one thing I noticed is he didn't have hardly any hair on him. Im not sure when he was born but if he was a feb or march calf he does not have much leg under him. Almost all the...

Best calving ease bull for Simmy angus hiefers

I had the worst luck with Ali on heifers that are simm/angus. 4 out of 5 pulled. Also the Ali calves did not look any better than my angus bull breds out of heifers, on cows he throws some pretty good calves. Climax seemed to have the worst disposition at nichols, don't know if I saw him on a...

    opinions on highliner

He was also my pick at nichols this summer, just waiting to see him as a mature bull. Walks alone was also there and looked better but not as big as highliner. If walks alone keeps growing and gets some more leg he would be my 1st pick.

    SunSeeker on Shorts??

Cant tell you on purebred shorthorn, but on a blue roan my friend has a sunseeker heifer that is a awesome solid black calf. As for all the simm, angus, and char cows we have bred in the past all the calves have been solid colored black or smoke on the char cows.

Which Bull would you use on your Maines?

Sounds like you do about the same as me. With those backrounds sounds like your going to want 2-3 different bulls to do the job. On Simm, angus, char, and maine I really like sunseeker calves. The best heifers I have that I kept are Ground Zero, Sunseeker, and Lucky break. The lucky break...

Which Bull would you use on your Maines?

Depends on what breed your other 50% of the cows are? If they all have 50% plus maine I would go with a percentage bull like Grizzly if your other 50 percent is not angus/simm. Then your calves are going to be closer to a 3way cross which is good for club and market cattle. I would only go with...

    Full Throttle

Koopertox works the best for me. Clean the hoof as best as you can and then spray it on and above the hoof. Do it a couple times ro more in a week and keep giving pen. Should clear up in a couple weeks. As for soemthing to keep a heifer I would stay away from anything with heatwave backround...

Thats good to hear, I do really like him just didn't want to risk it. And I was even thinking about cows but after I heard crooked legs I didn't want to try that either.

So I knew Built Right could throw quite a bit of white.

yeah in the end it doesnt matter what color it is as long as its running around and happy.

Lautner Bulls "Prince" and "California Dreamin"

I agree, I no longer breed any clubbie bulls until cow is 3 years old. I know some people have had good luck but once you pull them and also take some out the side like I have it is not worth it. And most of those problems were ALI calves.  Its tough on you and also extremely tough on the...

So I knew Built Right could throw quite a bit of white.

Yeah the white can be hard to get rid of. I have a Smoke meyer 734 granddaughter out of a PB charlias. Bred her to Purbred black angus bulls and she has only had 1 black calf out of 5. All others have been smoke. Another interesting thing is the only steer she has had was the black one as well...

    rocky balboa-feedback

I was ready to breed heifers to him last year and heard someone that bred to him the previous year. He bred 40 heifers and had all kinds of problems. Many of them had bad legs and walking issues. I never saw any of the calves myself though. Needless to say i went with another bull, didn't want...

    What's happening???

I heard that as well, they were wanting to charge up to 100 dollars per head. I know the Cattle assoc was fighting pretty hard to block it but I never heard the outcome.

    New calf problem

Thanks, thats a Sunseeker heifer from last year. Got a full bro to her this year, but have not had the time to start getting him ready. Good luck with your calf. Bob

    Black and White Sunseeker hiefer

I thing I can add about sunseeker is I have seen him at stud and he is one of the most impressive mature bulls I have ever seen. And that was even standing next to WMW and Heatwave and all the clones. The only other 2 mature bulls at hawkeye breeders that even stand close to as good are Aberdeen...

    New calf problem

You have to have them fairly tight to do the job. Main thing my vet told me is that they don't rub the calf so make sure there is lots of padding between the splints and the legs. I used medical gauze for one calf I had to splint. You can get it at wal mart even pretty cheap. Put 3-4 layers of...

    New calf problem

Make sure with splints you have lots of guaze between the legs and the splints. And Also don't leave them on for too long. You can run in to long term damage if they rub the calf and can cause infection. As long as you keep an eye on them and take them off ever couple days you should be fine.
