    JASS On The Mark

We tried but the AI didn’t stick.  Had a calf on her and think he was too much probably should have pulled him but just rushed it.  By he time I took her back, I had a straw of Loaded Up semen and now she is due to him in Feb. Time will only tell if I made the right decision on Loaded Up or On...

    Adding Depth to Heifer

We have fed out some steers and heifers that have had success in the show ring and I don’t believe I fed our steer that much grain.  I think the key is for the body to absorb the nutrients without it losing it on the ground. I could be way off base, but you could cut back to 16-18 lbs of feed...

    Feeding question

I agree, You have to track their weight.  I am not a fan of leaving feed out for show steers, it gets stale anyway.  They should be able to eat it all up in 30 minutes, so pull feed pan even if they didnt clean it up.  You want them to eat on show day, so alway stay with a feeding regimen, same...

    Training difficult Heifer

Knabe is right, you’re gonna have to move into heifer whisperer mode.  Spend an hour a day of calm behavior with her.  Tie her up and scratch her belly with a show stick, gently brush.  At this point , you got nothing to lose

    Show day drench

Every steer is different and you have to have a different approach for each one.  I don’t think it’s a one size fits all application.  Hydration is the most important thing after hauling, they may only need water and a bottle of dextrose.  There is a product in Texas called R&D that works real...

    S & R Rountable

What about using Northern Improvement?  He seems to be the go to sire on the Angus breed, of which I am very uneducated other than waiting on a Style calf.

    S & R Rountable

Got my Universal Semen Sales in the mail and the one that stood out was Stevenson's Statement.  Don't know anything else but he looks plenty deep.  Yearling bull and is not calving ease, but I would him on 2nd calf

    Genetics / Sire Questions

What are your goals for the calf?  If your in Texas, breed to the best Brangus bull you can and hope for a steer Maternal, I would and have used SAV Brilliance or Simplicity for Maine , both good calving ease bulls. Many people smarter and wiser than me here on the Planet have said live calf...

%Sim bull to soften & add frame

How much would the Cow have to say about frame size of her calf?  Even if your talking ET, your recip needs to produce milk and feed her calf.  If you have a bad recip, growth of calf in early stage is stalled and will most likely, but not always, be more moderate in frame.

Need help in how to classify this guy

Good advise running Simi, I can see that in the Majors.  British division may be the best bet at county with only three.  AOB in Texas is tough!

Need help in how to classify this guy

Most Texas jackpot shows have American, British and AOB.  Show in British. Select Shorthorn If your showing in TJLA, you can pick your class.  If you go to Majors, class under shorthorn on your class card.  They can always move him out to Red Cross if judges want, but make them decide.

    How to soften heifer up?

A lot of feed stores have their own mix.  If nothing else, buy Purina.  Forget the beef pulp and substitute with Purina nonmedicated precon.  Up her feed to 8 lbs feed and a 2 lb scoop of precon per feeding and fresh hay at all times

I need some advice for our steer

Don't let your 8 yr old treat him like a pet by scratching and rubbing his head.  He was broke and gentle, and now he want more head scratching so he is head butting.  Not saying it has happened to you but to my daughter, and her steer got better.  As previous poster said, it takes practice and...
