    Angus X Shorhorn

How true on both points.  Pelvic measurment of heifers would eliminate a lot of future problems.  We have used Shorthorn bulls on our RA females to produce the Durham Reds, with a huge increase in BW.  But I think it was a poor choice on our part of the bulls we used.  Lat year I did find a new...

Ouch, DL.  Did I hit a nerve?  I happen to like this sandbox...it's extremely informative and most often open minded; maybe not agreeing with others' opinions but respecting their rights to them.  Thank you.

Don't mean to start a war, but I'll say it anyway.  Ya'll just keep on jumping on the band wagon & breeding to all those hot shot bulls looking the next "great one".  I'll just continue my own little "no name" breeding program...  Often what goes around comes around.

    Red Angus bull

According to Larry Keenan (RAA) there will be a commercial test available soon -- although none of my bulls trace back you can bet I will have semen straws tested ASAP, it's just good business.

    RED ...MEMORIES

This quote is the honest truth.  I never met Cathy, but wish I'd had the priviledge.  When I first joined this famiyl (Steerplanet) she immediately sent me a PM with "I love red cows too"...  enough said.

Blizzard Worries in Tex Panhandle with a question?

We're on the eastern border of NM & it was horrible yesterday.  We spent most of the morning gathering up new babies & bringing them to the barn, just left the mommas out in the section.  Babies wouldn't have survived the 19 degree temperature in 30+ mph winds while they were wet from the snow. ...

    SP Brand Board?

Ours is        /                     D                     3 on the right hip.  Dwayne has had it since he was a young kid --- long, long, long time ago!  State law requires that everything be branded.

    Heritable Docility?.........AI Bulls Docility?

Oh yeah!  We tried the Canyon line once & only once...couldn't get rid of those calves fast enough!  We pay close attention to disposition in our herd (it is heritable) & if they're snorty they get a trip to the packer.

    Red Angus Females

Due to no rain in the last 9 months & none in the near future we are forced to reduce our herd & are offering for sale a really good group of young registered Red Angus (& a few Durham Red) cows & heifers.  You can check them out on our website www.slash-d-three.com.  We've already severely...

    What do you guys think?

What are his bloodlines?  We have one that could almost be a twin to him, sired by Sin City & out of a red angus/maine (high roller from the 90s) cow!  Will try to post a pic.

Ok, tell me whatcha think! don't hold back

Oh, Jill thank you!  As I'm searching for semen for this spring you've made the task so easy.  If only other bull promoters were this honest!!!  How many straw are available?????

    Bull Promotion- Controlled or UNcontrolled?

This IS one of the most interesting posts I've read AND everyone seems to have been able to state their opinion without getting too wound up...  So here goes mine!  We are breeders first & show exhibitors occasionally.  We show what we raise without the benefit of fitters -- sometimes we stand...

    Adding another breed

For years we fought the mentality of the powers that be that "we will not promote the show ring because they are not real Red Angus". It always bothered me that the very people that bad mouthed the show cattle would go to the shows and sit in the bleachers and tell everyone - "I have better ones...

What's the weirdest thing you've heard a judge say?

Had a nationally-ranked judge tell a friend of ours after the show that he didn't pick our bull for Grand because "... I don't know those people!"  NO POLITICS IN RED ANGUS -- OH COME ON.

    1 month out

We feed dry shredded beet pulp with rations -- never had any problems.  In summer shows we wet it for added fluid intake.  Natural Glo is stabilized rice which highly digestible energy source without grain overload 13% protein, 20% fat, 8.5% fiber.  You might look into another Moorman product...

    Any Planeteers going to Phoenix?

Hey ya'll, thanks for the responses.  I also wish they would rescind the 3/4 rule.  What I could gather when I talked by phone to the open beef show superintendent was that they had a few problems way back when with the Chi's & Chi crosses.  Since the Durham Red is a separate breed recognized by...

    Any Planeteers going to Phoenix?

Anybody out there going to AZ National?  We'll be taking some of our Reds.  Wish we could take some of our Durham Reds but can't because of the show's 3/4 blood rule---darn it!  Would love to actually get a chance to meet some of you.  This site feels like family, even when we have "heated"...
