    MAB semen quality

I personally would stick with the original.  There are no industry standards.  The owner makes the decision about how much to dilute it out or not.  We've used Rodgers semen and Lautner semen on various bulls throughout the years.  Since I prefer to get my cows bred the first time around...

when to wean calves for fall sales

Ours are day weaned now and have been for just over a week.  I know a few other guys have had theirs in and day weaned quite a bit longer.  We started out dragging halters, feeding in the bunk 2ce a day and now are rinsed 2ce a day, tied under fans, and eating out of pans to better adjust for...

    Announcement from Tyson Foods

No the Fairview sale barn is the Fidlers.  I again agree with Jeff.  XBAR that is one scary rant.  It is supposed to be an advantage of humans to have their own opinions.  When I read things like this I'm not really sure. I hadn't thought about changing the rules at the end with the...

    Announcement from Tyson Foods

I agree with Jeff.  That being said Fairview is my sale barn of choice in Illinois.  We normally get along very well there and anytime we haven't done well in a weight group is because of feeding mistakes I have made.  Their feeders want compensatory gain which in Illinois is not the norm in...

    Announcement from Tyson Foods

Does it matter if this is an official press release or is this about people giving their livestock medication without knowing and/or caring about the long term implications? I am not a Tyson fan.  We sell a small amount of hogs to Tyson direct.  They are confusing, loaded with double standards...

    bantamine

I don't understand jumping on smo.  From the looks of it the question was posted at 1:46 AM.  I don't know about your vets but mine wouldn't be real excited to answer a withdrawal question at that time of day. I think it opened up a super important part of the equation.  The withdrawal is...

    Announcement from Tyson Foods

I don't think this was intended as any sort of press release.  It was a statement made on the FB page of Fairview sale barn and they were repeating what was told to them by the Tyson buyers.  Fairview isn't the problem here. I agree it is common sense not to sell your livestock into the food...

    Announcement from Tyson Foods

This came from Fairview sale barn.  We sell there and they are as good of a sale barn as I have seen.  They aren't prone to making things up.  That being said Fairview is hard on anything that looks clubby anyway.  I've sat through multiple sales where they have specifically said that's not the...

    Straw is my enemy :(

I am curious as to why you want them to stop.

    Pour-On Dewormer's burning backs

I disagree that pour on will for sure burn them.  I would think washing off the Cydectin the next day is putting money down the drain.  Have you done fecals to see what you need to worm for? We have to use a combination of Safeguard and Long Range to get all of them here.  We saw a...

    Poor Conception Rates...

We use an electric thermos but unplug it before the semen goes in. Typically I would not be as concerned about distributor as where the semen originated.  Have you thawed out a straw and see what you have under a microscope?  Hopefully this weekend goes much better than the last round.

    Poor Conception Rates...

What did you use for semen and did you do natural heats or set them up?

"Believe In Me" or his son "I Believe"

What kind of cow and what does she look like?

    Extra Special

Rather than a cover up or deceit sometimes it is possible to flat out not know.  I can think of people I have known off the top of my head that have bred a cow and they do not know where the cow originated, she came out of the sale barn and someone got lucky, sometimes the straw used does not...

    Silent Heat

I would switch to Estrumate first and foremost.  For those that are showing you heat I would time breed them.

    Synchronized but no heat sign

Excellent point CAB.  We made the switch to Estrumate after battling Lute for several years.  We've seen a noticeable jump in conception since making the switch. I would not be afraid to breed even if they show absolutely no sign of heat.  We have and have settled them successfully.

    Synchronized but no heat sign

We synched 49 head and time bred the majority. We saw no difference in conception between obvious heat and time bred. We bred at 72 hours.  That's interesting that you waited them out and got to 108 hours and still got 2 of 3.  I'm not brave enough to try that after all the money spent but good...

    One N Only or Thriller

We've had 1 One and Only and he was small and built right to be born easy.  1 doesn't help you much.  I also haven't heard anything terrible about One and Only and calving.

AI'ing and vacinating at same time

Talk to your vet about the timing of a schedule each year to make it easier.  I will assume you are talking about something like Vista 5 VL5 SQ.  Is there anything else you use? Some guys swear that you have to be 60 days out for pre-breeding vaccines.  Others at least 21 days and no more than...

    Which Blower is best?

I have a year old Boss and an old, badly abused Sullivans.  I have tried to convince myself the Boss was worth it.  Running both side by side the Sullivans has a bit more force.  Enough to tell a difference.  The hose on the Boss is pretty light and too plasticky.  Supposedly they had a problem...
